Nov-30-03  Helloween: I agree with PinkPanther and also think Judit is heavily overrated. I don't prefer her style at all and think it is very inaccurate. She pretty much hands the games over to her opponents whenever she loses because she's always looking for some "spectacular" shot and ends up defeating herself. It's no wonder an iron machine like Kramnik has such an awe-inspiring record against her.
Nov-30-03  apple head: I think Judit Polgar is having a very bad tournament, she usauly does better.

Peter Leko had a bad tournament once 4/10 wins and he went from rank 4 in the world to rank 10 in the world!! listed by FIDE

Wow! Someone finally agrees with me. I don't know what to think.....excellent.

Nov-30-03  MoonlitKnight: Veselin Topalov won clear first with 7/10. Anand and Radjabov finished second with 6.5/10.

Anand should have played on for a win in his game against Topalov!

Nov-30-03  shadowmaster: <Polgar> There seems to be a lot of Polgar bashing after her dismal results in the Benidorm tournament. I just want to remind people that she won the Benidorm tournament last year ahead of competition such as Shirov, Karpov, Ponomariov, and Karjakin. Besides winning Essent last October, she took second at Wijk aan Zee last January, where she did not drop a single game, finishing ahead of Kramnik, Shirov, Bareev, Topalov, Radjabov, and Ponomariov. My opinion is that her results at Benidorm this year have more to do with exhaustion rather than her being overrated. On the Judit Polgar page, zorro says that he thinks that Judit looks unhappy. Diggitydawg provided this link: http://www.coruschess.com/ , where Judit explains the reason why she won’t play at Wijk aan Zee 2004: <I have been playing a lot of tournaments in the last twelve months without a break, and I will play some more in the forthcoming weeks. Basically, I am just tired of chess and so that is the reason why I do not come to the Netherlands in January. But do not worry, when I am invited for the edition of 2005,I will probably play again.>
Nov-30-03  MoonlitKnight: Nothing is more damaging for a chess player than bad moral.

Tigranvp: Maybe it's not what's wrong with Polgar, but what's going right for everybody else. Sometimes it doesn't matter how well you play, you just can't win.
Dec-01-03  Toobs: PinkPanther. I think you're overrated. I'm sure if you played Judit, people would just laugh at you. You can NEVER call an IGM overrated. I don't care who it is.
Dec-02-03  Bears092: Judit is bad at quick games.
Shirov is bad at blind games.

Both are still top 10 during normal conditions.

Dec-03-03  Johannes: I'm not a freakin fan! she is good. give her some credit! Gosh.. which part of my kibitz was false? tell me. I mean, she beat kasparovs ass for christ sakes, come on!

technical draw: If you look at my Bio you will see that my favorite current player is Judit Polgar, so I hope all you posters are on your knees when you are mentioning HER name. And I am a "freakin fan".
Dec-03-03  Benjamin Lau: Johannes, Polgar only ever beat Kasparov once, and he still has a significant plus score against her (9 wins, 1 loss, 3 draws). On the other hand, I agree with you, she isn't overrated, she's just getting exhausted from all the tournaments she has been attending. She should get some well deserved rest.
Dec-04-03  Johannes: ya well, I mean come on, once! ok how many people out there has beaten kasparov? honestly, not very many. Thank you benjamin, damn right she isnt overrated lol.Come on!The girl can play ok? I personally think that she should be like 7 or 8th in the world.

Chessical: Whether you are a Polgar fan or not, the following are facts:

1. She is the strongest female player in the history of chess.

2. She is currently over 200 points ahead of the next strongest female Chiburdanidze.

3. She is unquestionably a "super-grandmaster"; currently being the 10th strongest player in the world on FIDE's list at 2722, equal with Leko (9th), and ahead of such world-class players as Ponomariov, Ivanchuk, and Dreev.

4.Gelfand has a lower rating than Polgar.

Finally, an opinion. A player's performance at rapid play chess is surely ephemeral compared to successes at a more relective time control where random tactics, and losses on time, are less likely to effect the result.

Dec-04-03  Johannes: Good points, I second on that!
Dec-05-03  ongyj: Maybe I'm third on that? Well, talk about over-rated here... who'se anybody to justify whether a player is over-rated or not? Just because Judit(or any other player) did not perform does not mean he/she is over-rated. Just beacause Kasparov did not perform in all his tournaments this year does not make his 2800+ rating over-rated. It is very unfair to judge just by a few games, and mind you, even 10 games are considered very few. That explains the difficulty of having a 'fair' World Championship, should a player underperform. That is, in my opinion, why the top players are reluctant to participate in a World Champion Reunification Match. Leaving fame and money factors aside, the good players do not want to get kicked out by lesser players due to an error. Meanwhile, sponsors are unwilling to contribute funds for lengthy tournaments. Chess is already a very difficult game to play well, yet organising a fair tournament is nearly impossible!
Dec-05-03  Spitecheck: On that point ongy.. also most of the top talent does not want to compete in a reunification match because even if they win Kasparov because of his rating and reputation will still be worlds #1 in the eyes of the media/sponsors at large and probably most spectators for that matter.

chuckchess: Nice summary of my position chessical
Jan-01-04  Giancarlo: I can't believe what I'm reading. What the hecks wrong with you guys? How can anyone here say anything about anyone who's ever played chess? This girl's just out to find the better part of her game. You guys(not all) jump on her when she has one bad day. How many of you are perfect? No one. When Michael Jordan went 0/10 in a game, I'm sure people criticized him, but he came back to win the championship on the last shot. So what I'm saying is she's doing her best, and she knows what her best is, not what anyone else says. So go look in the mirror and at your own chess abilities before you put her down, because she is a good player. Period.

refutor: i spell it incorrectly because i have no respect for the man. as a fan i have all the right in the world to criticize the "man"
Jan-02-04  square dance: <refutor> i didn't say you don't have the right just that you sound like po'd utah jazz fan (lol). it was just my way of sticking it to you a little bit since i am an mj fan. plus why you would pick him to have no respect for is beyond me. i am curious to know which atheletes you do respect, and why in fact you don't respect him. if you care to elaborate on this my email address is in my profile.
Jan-02-04  Giancarlo: You see what I mean, you guys can't respect anyone, let's see you do what MJ, Fischer, Gretzky, or Jerry Rice ever did.
Jan-30-07  positionalgenius: A really bad showing for Judit, but good for topalov.
