Jan-22-12  AuN1: is harikrishna really going to be playing in the a group next year?
Jan-22-12  Penguincw: < AuN1: is harikrishna really going to be playing in the a group next year? >

The tradition for winning Group B (or C) is a guarantee invitation for the next group. So, if Harikrishna wins Group B, he will ensure an invitation. Last year, McShane and Navara both won Group B, and both were invited, however McShane did not have enough time. :-\ However, even he doesn't win, he can still have a chance.

Jan-22-12  Penguincw: < "India’s Pentala Harikrishna kept the lead in Grandmaster Group B with a 6.5/8-score after a draw with white against Holland’s Sergei Tiviakov in 63 moves from a Benko opening. He was followed at half a point by Russia’s Alexander Motylev." >

This leaves Motylev a chance to tie it all up.

Jan-27-12  Penguincw: Reindermann beat Vocaturo with the black pieces. Now, it's a matter of how and when Ernst is going to beat the Indian.

technical draw: Harikrishna is getting whooped real bad. Mate in 17...
Jan-27-12  Jason Frost: And with only 1 real check left Hari resgins. Now Motylev and L'Ami are only half a point back, and Motylev plays Hari with white tomorrow ... making B a bit more interesting.

Bruzon, though, is now basically out of conntention after blundering badly against Nyzhnik.

I made an error there. :)

Jan-28-12  Penguincw: < "In Group B, Sokolov awarded the 250-euro daily prize to 15-year-old Ilya Nyzhnyk for his victory in 31 moves with black from a King’s Indian Defense against fellow Ukrainian Kateryna Lahno. Jan-29-12  Penguincw: L'Ami trying in the endgame to win. He seems lost though. Harirkishna and Motylev already drew.
Jan-29-12  Penguincw: Potkin wants to break even at 0. L'Ami has different thoughts.
Jan-29-12  Penguincw: What can L'Ami do? Congratz Harirkishna.
Jan-29-12  LDJ: Harikrishna won!... Which means that I won some nice chessbucks :)
Jan-29-12  Penguincw: It's official. Potkin defeated L'Ami. Congratz to Pentala Harikrishna who placed solo first in Group B, and will get an invitation to the 75th Tata Steel A Group next year. Hopefully Anand will come. :)
