  cu8sfan: What an impressive performance by Moro! Makes one wonder what could have been if he had been able to attend Libya.
Jul-30-04  chesscookie: sasikiran played well too, gave moro a run for his money
Jul-30-04  tanginamo: geez! that ponomariov guy seems to be overrated. no wonder he's not in Libya.

  acirce: Both Moro and Pono could well have won Libya with that weak field.
Jul-31-04  jaime gallegos: Ponomariov did less than 50% of points being the former World Chess Champion ! Sasikirian did it well and McShane was a disaster

  iron maiden: Bacrot seemed a little shaky too. I actually thought he might be able to win this thing and stake his claim as a definite super-GM.
Aug-08-04  PinkPanther: <jaime gallegos>
In all likelihood it had to do with his rustiness, because he hadn't played since October '03. And I don't know how to explain that game against McShane, he just committed blunder after blunder.

<iron maiden>
Bacrot is overrated, don't be surprised.

Aug-08-04  chesscookie: <PinkPanther> I agree, Bacrot is definitely overrated.

  acirce: There may be reason to suspect he is overrated in some sense as most of the points he gained to reach 2700+ was due to his 11.0/11 performance against a rating average of 2463 in the French team championship, but on the other hand he did score 3.5/6 in Petrosian Memorial, the same as Kasparov and Anand, he did win the match against Sokolov etc. If he is overrated we will find out I guess.
Aug-08-04  PinkPanther: <acirce>
Bhahaha, Sokolov is overrated too. Don't forget about the complete meltdown he had at the Corus tournament. I think he only finished a half point or a point ahead of Timman.
Aug-08-04  ruylopez900: <jaimie> You have to remember that Pono is not really an ex-WC, just a winner of a FIDE Rapid KO WC tourney. The two are different.

  cu8sfan: I plan to play in this year's open section of the Biel tournament. That should be fun!

  cu8sfan: Biel 2005 has an interesting Lineup: Boris Gelfand, Andrei Volokitin, Hikaru Nakamura, Christian Bauer, Yannick Pelletier, Magnus Carlsen. Nakamura vs. Carlsen should be fun, I hope Magnus can give Naka a good pounding!

  Maroczy: <cu8sfan> Good luck! I take it the Open is separate from the Big Guys?

  suenteus po 147: There seems to be a game missing from this tournament. Where is the sixth round game between McShane and Morozevich?
