Aug-30-10		Gryz: Kamsky (and Golizadah) win their games in round 8. The rest plays a draw. Kamsky gets back at the top. We now have 5 players in the lead, with 6.5/8. Rauf Mamedov, Aleksej Aleksandrov, Boris Savchenko, Gata Kamsky and Ashghar Golizadeh. The tournament ends tomorrow (31/8). So tomorrow one more round ? Go, Gata, go !

Aug-31-10		Gryz: I watched a large number of games live. Pretty impressive ! I was particularly amused how Gata always got into equal positions in midgame. And then, out of nowhere, somewhere in the late endgame, Gata got an advantage. Which he used to bring home the victory. Even though he had the highest rating of all players in Baku, it's still an achievement to win +7=1-1. Too bad he got unlucky against Mamedov. Even when you are favorite, it isn't easy to live up to expectations.

It's very much a "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" situation. Also neither would likely be playing for first. More likely if they played for a win it would be to play for a shared first which means less money for the risk. Or even worse than that, some type of blitz playoff against a 2700. I'm not aware of baku rules but I'm just giving this scenario as an example.

Theoretically... 1 person w/ 7.5 = 10000 USD 2 persons w/ 7.5 = 8750 USD per person 3 persons w/ 7.5 = 7500 USD per person <So the more who play for first and get first actually get less than first. And if they lose they get <much> less than first. Because a shared first 1-3rd place tie pushes down the average money won for those who tie 2nd, and those who tie 3rd.> Whereas those that take a quick draw or a prearranged draw are in the middle. With little to no risk. Anyways, there's more to it all than just being yellow. The phrase that comes to mind is Expectation Value. I'd have a hard time explaining that which I honestly don't fully understand. And I'm quickly losing interest in trying to continue this as it is. <waustad> By the way, Golizadeh was +6 - 1 = 2 for +5 for the tournament. Also he's almost a 2500 FM. When I said ...yellows...I was just showing my disappointment because I wanted an underdog to win the Baku Open and I found the two to have the chance...anyways it was Kamsky who won and there's no use talking about it now.
