chessgames.com: We now have the scores from the Greenland open, which featured a line-up of super-strong GM's from all over the world.

Luke McShane swept the event with an incredible 8.5/9 score.

Oct-20-05  EmperorAtahualpa: My god, there is even a GREENLAND open??
Nov-15-05  sleepkid: the amateur section was hotly contested by some sled dogs, two icebergs and a polar bear.

(my apologies to all Inuits, I'm sure Greenland is a lovely country.)

Did anyone know that Greenland was named such as a clever marketing ploy by a viking to get people to settle there?

Angus Tinker: That's it for me! I'm off to Greenland!

Pepperpot: Sounds lovely!

(more apologies to the Inuits and the sled dogs.)

Feb-16-09  Dredge Rivers: Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

whiteshark: "The Greenland Open 2003 took place in the southern town of Qaqortoq from 28 June to 1 July. A line up of foreign stars, all of whom will visited Greenland for the first time, and local players contested the <rapid event> for a total prize fund of US$10,000. Luke McShane with a tremendous 8.5/9 score took clear first a point clear of Jóhann Hjartarson. There are clearly errors in a few of the games."
