Cmilyte, who had been playing well of late, winds up in a positional horror against Chiburdanidze -- the sort of position used in beginner's books to show how a knight beats a bishop. Is 1 d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 unsound for White? This year turns out better for her than it seemed in January, when she was involved in an almost fatal car accident. She had to spend time in hospital instead of playing Aeroflot Open against among others Mamedyarov and Jobava, but seems to have recovered well. |

Lahno's 5 wins and 4 draws in 9 games was a very impressive result, all her opponents were rated higher than 2450. |

Tatiana, after such a miserable tourney, appears to be wanting to kick hers. |
