5-6 Postny, Nabaty (a 2450 player) 5.5
The decisive games in the last round tomorrow will be: Avrukh-Mikhalevski, Smirin-Rodshtein (and in case those two games are drawn, possibly also Lerner-Postny and Nabaty-Huzman). |

| | Annie K.: Buchholz, yeah. At the closing ceremony they said the money awards will have to be computed later, but meanwhile and as far as the trophy awards went, Avrukh got the first place trophy, and Smirin got the second. I had a great time watching the games "live"! =)
I looked at all the games, but was following particularly two, Roiz-Caspi and Tarnopolsky-Vasiliev, both of which were fascinating. Considering that for once I had no kibitzing to go on, I was very pleased to see that many of the moves Roiz made matched the moves I had in mind! :D An interesting aspect was added to the tournament by the fact that the games were held in a museum exhibit hall, also featuring some enormous skeletons and reconstructions of Patagonian dinosaurs. That sure can put things in an unusual perspective! ;) I found myself thinking "well, I bet they couldn't play chess worth a d@mn", but those huge rows of sharp teeth seemed to be saying "well, we didn't need to"... :s |

In which case chess players could soon join the dinosaurs.
The venue may have been a form of preparation for this possibility :-) |

But the liveliness of the tournament, and the youth of some of the participants, left me rather reassured that we chess players may survive for a while yet. :) <I just knew I should not have challenged You to a game!> Well, considering that Roiz only drew that game, it may not have been a major mistake! ;) |
