Mar-18-08  chesskids: Hou will not lose to Javakhishvili in last round. It will be easy for her to make a draw with white pieces!

percyblakeney: Hou also seems to gain lots of rating points and I wouldn't be surprised if she's 2600 before too long.
Mar-18-08  chesskids: With the advantage of white pieces, Yifan will win most probably.

Mar-18-08  chesskids: She will be female world champion within 3 years!

  chessmoron: Hou Yifan's next tournament:

Her chance to become a GM. A bit tough though.

Mar-18-08  socnegoti: Zhang Pengxiang will also be there! Haven't seen him compete for a long time.
Mar-18-08  s4life: <percyblakeney: Hou also seems to gain lots of rating points and I wouldn't be surprised if she's 2600 before too long.>

Apparently she'll be around 2570 and maybe a bit more if she wins tomorrow.

Mar-19-08  kwi: <chessmoron> I don't think she can get a GM norm there, since the number of rounds is only 7.
Mar-19-08  Astardis: How pathetic of Pia to let go the win. Now she has to leave it to the kid.
Mar-19-08  chesskids: Just got confirmed that no GM norm for Yifan even if she win next round.

Feel sorry for her.

Mar-19-08  kwi: <chesskids> That's lousy. But she'll get there for sure.
Mar-19-08  Youjoin: <kwi> Tomorrow it´s time for the last round, the 9th

dcj1955: So, if there has been 8 rounds played, why are only 6 rounds of games and standings through 6 rounds only?
Mar-20-08  Udit Narayan: I want to know why did Ushenina have such a bad result?
Mar-20-08  kwi: <dcj1955> noone has uploaded the rest?

twinlark: Rule 1.45b of the FIDE Handbook stipulates that:

<For a GM norm at least 3 of the opponents must be GMs.>

Only Pia Cramling and Zhu Chen are full GMs in this tourney.

twinlark: Unless Zhao will be considered to have been a GM for this tournament when her title is confirmed??

Mar-20-08  TheBB: Yifan drew Javakshivili/whatever today and wins with +5. Congratulations!
Mar-20-08  laserlight: <Just got confirmed that no GM norm for Yifan even if she win next round.>

Who confirmed that?

<Unless Zhao will be considered to have been a GM for this tournament when her title is confirmed?>

I believe the answer is yes, Zhao Xue will be considered to have been a GM for this tournament, assuming her GM title is confirmed. The online FIDE handbook Section B01.0.54 states: "The date a title is achieved is the date of the last norm or the date of fulfilling the necessary rating, whichever comes later."

percyblakeney: Back to reality for Atalik in the last rounds, where she faced the top three and lost. She had a very good tournament anyway, and towards the end Zhu Chen saved some rating points after that miserable start. It will be interesting to see how Hou will do against players like Adams and Sargissian in her next tournament.

percyblakeney: Hou gained 17 points in the end, and together with the 21.7 from Corus B and Aeroflot her live rating has passed 2565.
Mar-20-08  stanleys: Well done young lady! Congratulations!
Mar-20-08  Astardis: Sheesh, we're drifting towards a time that has children ruling the chessworld. First that Norwegian boy, now the girl from Redchina.
