pawn up for Ivanchuk, and looks like he can get another pawn now.

  zarg: Alekseev getting tortured
Oct-10-09  anandrulez: <percyblakeney: Beating Grischuk in less than 30 moves with black is no trivial achievement, it looks like no one ever had done it before with classical time controls. The fact that Grischuk only had seconds left against Aronian's 1 hour 20 minutes indicates that the latter was rather well prepared...> Girshcuk is rather well known for his time handling skills albeit for wrong reasons ... That line is what Aronian plays a lot especially u saw in Mexico where Anand won as black vs Aronian ...
Oct-10-09  siamesedream: What a game Nakamura - Grischuk!

Open Defence: <Carlsen is getting pure, "concentrated" Kasparov, if you catch my meaning.> yes but probably forgotten pre-computer study methods of Botvinnik's school which actually enhances and moulds one's chess strength?
Oct-10-09  timhortons: <You mean the draw> the game is drawn, grischuk handle scotch better than leko.leko mishandling of the game created to much story, nothing special in it.he lost the game against carlsen because he play bad.

rogge: Chairman Naka is much better than Carlsen, obviously.
Oct-10-09  timhortons: <rogge> magnus performance at china is amazing, im just talking about the merit of scotch game. dont be sensitive,i am not disrespecting magnus.
Oct-10-09  jon01: Was there a chance to obtain GM/IM norms in this tournament?
Oct-10-09  siamesedream: <?? You mean the draw?> Yeah, forgot to add ";".
Oct-10-09  messachess: Amazing, the good players you never hear about--Evgenij Miroshnichenko for example.--doing well here.

dont spank.hehe..

Oct-10-09  returnoftheking: Motylov lost a Petroff! As <DCP> has pointed out, that happens rarely.

Topscorers:
Adams (who won easily today) 6,5/7
Volokitin 6/7
Greenfeld 6/7
Nisipeanu 6/7 (relatively easy schedule)
Svidler 5,5/7 (Why isn't he wch candidate?)
Gashimov 5/6

Ranked on tpr:

Svidler, Volokitin, Gashimov, Adams, Eljanov

Wish there was a tournament book or bulletin with a selection of interesting games of this event.

Oct-10-09  jon01: Yeah, it's quite difficult to go through all these 1000 games.
Oct-10-09  returnoftheking: If Volokitin was on 2691 after the 4th round he might be 2700 now - he scored 2points in the 3 remaining games, against Sargissian, Thomashevsky and Kuzubov.
Oct-10-09  Paraconti: I thought as games progressed the leading teams would play one another. This last round seems to show a lot of strong teams playing weaker ones, leading to many quick wins for the top players.

That's because you cannot play the same team twice. Once a top team has played all the other top teams once, then they are left with weaker teams to play.

If there are 6 strong teams in a 7 round event, then twice a strong team will have to play a weak team, maybe even in the last round.

Oct-11-09  kurtrichards: Congratulations to Economist-SGSEU-1 Saratov for winning the European Club Cup (2009)!
