Is about 67 moves counted as a miniature? :¤)

Apr-13-08  nuwanda: thank you <sitzkrieg>, really a narrow escape...
Apr-13-08  percyblakeney: Morozevich's game is the last to finish, nice to see him work so hard to win against another 2700 player in spite of it being a not too important last round game.
Apr-13-08  malthrope: <minasina: <malthrope: Besides, I get the distinct feeling that 'Moro-Gelfand' is going to be a minature! ;) > Is about 67 moves counted as a miniature? :¤)>

It went a little <l-o-n-g-e-r> than I expected! ~lol~ ;)

PhilFeeley: With all the draws, it was good to see a few wins. The Krasenkow-Romanov and Inarkeiv-Ni Hua games were really interesting.

PhilFeeley: Hilarious explanation of the seventh round routing of Tomsk:

Apr-13-08  karakoyunlu: (zluria: Moro will certainly win - it would be a very strange world indeed if Moro couldn't win this. I could win this playing against god!) Please dont involve GOD in chess... GOD created you and knows every single idea in your brain...
Apr-13-08  percyblakeney: First board players and their score:

Ivanchuk +4
Morozevich +2
Radjabov +2
Svidler +1
Gashimov =
Gelfand =
Ponomariov =
Alekseev -1
Andreikin -1
Karpov -1
Onischuk -1
Efimenko -3

Apr-13-08  slomarko: and what about the other boards?

Tomlinsky: and what about the other boards? <please>
Apr-13-08  percyblakeney: I've no idea about all of them, but the Chinese players did well. Wang Yue got the Grand Prix invitation but maybe he isn't better than the three that played here. Wang Hao probably had the best score of everyone with his +5.

Karjakin's +2 was definitely OK, while Nepomniachtchi won't be happy with his -4. Mamedyarov went = and seems to be a bit from his best form, Shirov had +2 as did Kamsky and Grischuk. Navara scored +1, Bareev -3, to mention a few others.

Apr-13-08  percyblakeney: Korchnoi's -2 in 10 games was quite OK considering that he played many games on the top boards, against opponents with a much higher rating.
Apr-13-08  positionalgenius: Once again Mamedyarov underperforms. I guess karpov only played three games? Ponomariov played some good games, Ivanchuk was on fire and in general svidler played well.
Apr-13-08  jacqueslaumone: <percyblakeney: I've no idea about all of them, but the Chinese players did well.>

With both Ni and Bu on +3 and Wang Hao on +5, China won the Russian Team Championship. After this event Wang Yue will be the lowest rated of the 4 Chinese top players, but I guess he got into the Grand Prix because he was the first of them to reach 2700.

Apr-14-08  zoat22: r they playing today?
Apr-14-08  unsound: The tournament finished yesterday.
Apr-14-08  Bobsterman3000: Wow, Moro had 6 decisive games.

Apr-14-08  unsound: Well Timofeev had 9 decisive games. Only 3 wins though, sadly for him, so I'm not sure it's all that great an achievement.

Wang Hao had 5 decisive games, winning all 5(!).

Wang Hao was 5.5/6(!) with White and 2.5/5 with Black for an overall <+5 =6 -0> performance.

Outstanding result for the youngster from China.

Go China!

Yes, it seems that

2008 Mamedyarov = 2005 Morozevich

Mamedyarov usually just completely kills the 2600s but then has only so-so results against his fellow 2700s.

And his rating is changing to reflect this. <frogbert> shows Mamedyarov's live rating to be around 2739, down from around 2761 just four months ago.

Apr-14-08  positionalgenius: <notyetagm> Yes. Mamedyarov has great talent but needs to adapt to 2700+ opposition.

sisyphus: Out of curiosity, I looked up Ilya Odessky's report on the fine imposed on Tomsk-400 before the seventh round. http://chesspro.ru/_events/2008/dag...

The ChessBase report was discrete:

<Odessky comments that the penalty is on the low side for a well-financed outfit.>

However, the orignial (through Babelfish) is more pointed:

<Another answer - to the antipole: to remove 1000 rubles as ridiculous punishment for the commands, whose budgets are measured by very imposing sums, to maximally twist nuts. >

Apr-15-08  stanleys: Someone commented on a Russian forum that during the closing ceremony Dreev has thrown a glass at Igor Lysyj.Anyone could confirm?

Apperently another "Cherchez la femme" story

Apr-15-08  minasina: Where is this game: http://chesspro.ru/chessonline/onli... http://google.com/translate?u=http%... , not in the database (yet?).
Apr-15-08  malthrope: <minasina: Where is this game: http://chesspro.ru/chessonline/onli... - http://google.com/translate?u=http%... , not in the database (yet?).>

Right <minasina> - that's 'Shirov-Jako' from Round #3. :) There should be 396 games total in this database but CG.com only shows 394, atm. Hence there is one other unknown game missing. ;) - Mal
