refutor: why can't you believe that?
Nov-25-04  Knight13: <refutor> I don't know. I just don't get much draws when I need to.

Sneaky: I'm with Knight13 on this one... I almost never get a draw, and if I do it's usually a "tactical" draw, like when the losing side finds perpetual check. In my nine games at the US Open I only made it to the time control (move 40) one time, can you believe that? And as usual, no draws.

I can appreciate however, that if you want to play chess professionally you can't just throw a draw away by chasing some fantasy variation in vague hopes of a win. The players who stubbornly say, "I'm not taking any chances, YOU take the chances" are the ones who finish with plus scores.

Nov-25-04  Knight13: I'm with Sneaky. People usually never agree a draw when the game is stuck with pawns that your pieces almost never moves out. I am still an Intermediate Player. But when I play with other Intermediate Players, they say "Wel'll see," or "I don't agree it." And then both gets a win, either me or the opponent, or the game just went on and on and, finally, draw is accepted.

So when you offer a draw and they refuse it and you lost, you might think "I wished he agreed the draw!" Or "Dang! I should've agreed that draw!" and either way you get a little mad.

So this is my comment: "If the position is pretty much stuck, agree the draw. If not, play on see what happens. You might or might not like the after results."

Dec-05-04  aw1988: I'm a fan of marathon games, and I love endgames. So, if you can't stomp me in the middlegame or opening, I get to have some great fun. :)
