| | percyblakeney: Adams has dropped much in playing strength. As late as in October 2008 he was well ahead of Svidler, Shirov, Gelfand and Grischuk on the rating list. Lost position also today, this time against a 2442 rated opponent. |

I though he was lost and then intimidated his opp wih h4 and the likes :P> No, Shirov never had a lost game - he held the initiative since Baramidza played 20...f5 (missing the stronger ...Nf4! first). Black could have held, but he made two serious mistakes - first 31...Kf7? (after g6 he should be solid enough), perhaps missing that after 32.Bxh7 the knight on e6 is not really under threat (32...Qxe6?? 33.Bg8+), and then 33...Qe5? (after 33...Be7 34.Ng5+ Kf8 the black king seems reasonably safe). |
