  lostemperor: I won?!! I didn't expect that. Frankly I thought I finished around the same point as TIMER (shared 3rd).

Thank you for the original idea of a predictioncontest for this different KO-format tournament <Bobak Zahmat>.

  lostemperor: I think I forgot about the bonuspoints for a correct player in the top 16:)
Dec-19-05  Bobak Zahmat: <lostemperor><I won?!! I didn't expect that. Frankly I thought I finished around the same point as TIMER (shared 3rd). Thank you for the original idea of a predictioncontest for this different KO-format tournament <Bobak Zahmat>.> Congratulations. I am prepared to hold more prediction contests in the nearby future, certaintly in 2006!
Dec-19-05  Bobak Zahmat: <Lostemperor> Maybe we can 'create' a contest team! Perhaps <cu8sfan> is also prepared to take of part of it.

  lostemperor: <Bobak Zahmat> Not a bad idea though I can't speak for cu8sfan, who is doing a wonderful job. As for me I will hold a predictioncontest as long as I still can and enjoy but I will keep your suggestion in mind.
Dec-20-05  Petrosian63: Why is so many people having second doubts about Aronian's win?

He won it fair and square. They all played and he came out of top.

Congratulations to Aronian. Play well in Corus 2006.

Dec-27-05  Bobak Zahmat: <StraightLarsen><Yes, you should start kibitzing there. I also hope Ponomariov wins Pamplona... I am Canadian. I like playing on playchess.com, whichis a very good site. People also say ICC is good, but I do not play there... If you have Fritz or Chessbase or something you can play on playchess.com for free...> Playchess.com is the best site to play online chess! I have played chess at many different websites, but none can compare to playchess.com!

  chessgames.com: <tpstar: <cguerra> ... One of the posting guidelines is "No personal attacks against other users," and calling someone "stupid" violates their policy. ... Being such a strong player, maybe you could focus your input into positive comments and helpful insights, rather than starting a contest over who will get kicked off the site first. =)>

The contest is over. cguerra wins.

Dec-29-05  mahmoudkubba: I don't get it. are there more than one championship each year for chess champions? and why?
Dec-29-05  ughaibu: Mahmoudkubba: FIDE is in a dot six depression and trying to create the creatures.

  lostemperor: <mahmoudkubba> without the Mumbo Jumbo stuff, this is a qualificationtournament for the world chess championship. Possibly 11 players qualify for the candidate's matches. With the possible Fide ratinglist of January 2006 the likely candidatematches pairings could be:

Aronian - Carlsen
Leko - Gurevich
Gelfand - Rublevsky
Ponomariov - Kasimdzanov
Bacrot - Kamsky
Grischuk - Malakhov
Polgar - Bareev
Shirov - Adams

  refutor: who would have qualified by rating if they used ACP or Sonas ratings?

  acirce: http://www.fide.com/news.asp?id=896

<Therefore, according to article 3.1.A of the official regulations of the Candidate Matches, and if there is no justified appeal against the January Rating List, the pairings are:

1. L. Aronian - M. Carlsen
2. P. Leko - M. Gurevich
3. R. Ponomariov - S. Rublevsky
4. B. Gelfand - R. Kasimjanov
5. E. Bacrot - G. Kamsky
6. A. Grischuk - V. Malakhov
7. J. Polgar - E. Bareev
8. A. Shirov - M. Adams>

Jan-04-06  TIMER: Interesting: Gelfand is above Ponomariov on the January rating list by virtue of playing more games with the same rating, but FIDE use the unrounded up version (which is never normally used) leading them to swap places.
Jan-04-06  TIMER: So the 4 qualifiers joining Topalov, Anand, Svidler and Morozevic for the next San Luis like tournament from these candidates will be:

1 Winner of (Aronian-Carlsen)-(Shirov-Adams);
2 Winner of (Leko-Gurevic)-(Polgar-Bareev);
3 Winner of (Ponomariov-Rublevsky)-(Grischuk-Malakhov);

4 Winner of (Gelfand-Kasimjanov)-(Bacrot-Kamsky)

  tamar: <hintza> Now the Post sequence is out of whack

Because I used the Kill Button to edit

Jan-04-06  TIMER: Adams-Shirov are well matched. I think that Aronian will beat Carlsen fairly easily.

I think that Gelfand will probably qualify from his section unless Kamsky improves a lot by then.

I think that Leko will meet Polgar, and that match could go either way although I would root for Polgar.

Jan-04-06  hintza: <tamar> Haha :)

  tamar: <Timer> Your assessments are shrewd, or at least I agree with most of them :)

Ponomariov-Rublevsky could produce high quality chess, as both are peaking right now. Edge to Pono, as he has experience getting together a team to maximize his preparation.

  refutor: the top bracket is the strongest easily, who knows though...i might underestimate carlsen all the way to the finals ;)

leko should win the second

not sure about the third

and in an upset, i predict bacrot to come out of the fourth
