Aug-05-03    PinkPanther: This whole e4 trend is continuing at Dortmund this year, it's getting rather sickening really. I think through 5 rounds (15 games) all but 3 have been e4, and of those e4 games there have been 9 sicilians. It's just sickening, come on guys, let's get creative. There are plenty of other defenses against e4 that are worth playing, and if it's counter play you're looking for, what's wrong with the Marshall Gambit of the Ruy Lopez or the Pirc. The Sicilian Defense constitutes 9/15 games, which is 60 percent. The Sicilian shouldn't constitute 60 percent of e4 openings, much less when you factor in the other opening moves such as d4, c4, Nf3. Aug-10-03    apple head: sicilian najdorf is the best against e4 Aug-10-03    pkspks: ok this is why they play the Sicilian and this goes with the open games (e4 e5) becuase it gives u a fight for win, i mean the pirc is fighting but not compared to the Sicilian, look at the french thats drawish more than a winning game that doesnt mean that u cant win with the french but it is much harder i no i play the french! same with the caro-kann. but this gives the GMS a more of fight.
