Oct-18-03  seoulmama: Tell me now, was this a classical tournament? Or were the games played with a rapid time control?
Oct-18-03  Diggitydawg: Classical time control: http://www.hoogeveen.nl/essent-ches...
Oct-19-03  MoonlitKnight: I think Karpov would have stood a better chance with a rapid time control, though Polgar would have crushed the field nevertheless.
Oct-19-03  Spitecheck: Yes Karpov definetely would have stood a better chance, these days the more thinking he does the worse he plays. Karpov was practcally spent only 1 or 2 games into this tournie, it was evident in his play later. And his second game against Polgar was equally taxing on him given the length of the game and lack of a positive outcome even though two pawns to the good.
