 | | technical draw: Are we talking about the same Polgar that WON Corus last year? |
| Feb-03-04 | | Benjamin Lau: Refutor, overall scores matter more IMO. |
Feb-03-04
 | | refutor: well look at the overall record since 1999 for instance then ;) |
| Feb-03-04 | | PinkPanther: <technical draw>
Probably not, since Polgar has never won Corus. |
Feb-03-04
 | | technical draw: <PinkPanther> You are right. I stand corrected. She came in second, undefeated, half a point behind Anand. A terrible showing. |
| Feb-04-04 | | PinkPanther: <technical draw>
There is a difference between coming in second and winning the tournament, which you felt compelled to put in all caps, by the way. Don't you think? |
| Feb-04-04 | | Kaspablanca: Didnt Macieja(spelling?)crushed Polgar in a match, i think 5-1 or something like that. |
| Feb-04-04 | | Zidane: ok why is Adams not playing? he sure seems to be neglected over Radjabov and Pons. and not having Svidler, Grischuk or Ponomariov is too much of farce they are trying to pull. If Linares has to stay as the top notch tournament they need to invite top tenners instead of local losers! I don't mind the field to be stretched but have some solid 2700+ players. radjabov is at 2650! which is not even in the top 35! some 15 yrs back it would've been ok but not anymore when there are almost 15 players at 2700 and above and the Linares field is restricted to only 6 players ! [with two of them at 2662 and 2650] |
Feb-04-04
 | | Reisswolf: Hey, I just realised something. <A>nand was the winner of Group <A>, <B>ruzon of Group <B> and <C>arlsen of Group <C>. I think this tournament was fixed! |
| Feb-04-04 | | Zidane: ok here is the latest list of all the players that have confirmed their participation. http://www.aeroflotchess.com/listco... As you can see none of the 2700+ players are in it ! |
Feb-04-04
 | | Reisswolf: I thought Anand was going to be there. What happened? So Anand has not been invited to Aeroflot or to Linares? Sucks for him! |
Feb-04-04
 | | lostemperor: I'm sure Anand was invited but declined them both.
Sucks for them! |
Feb-04-04
 | | technical draw: <PinkPanther> Like I said, I stand corrected. I was just confusing Corus with other tournaments that she WON. |
| Feb-04-04 | | apple head: lol just cause a you Kramnik fans are dissapointed that Anand won its over, Vishy won this tournament 2 times in a row!! |
| Mar-30-04 | | solkrov: anand of india, asia's 1st world chess champion, is to chess as yao ming of china, asia's first nba top draft pick, is to basketball or as manny pacquiao of philippines is to boxing. shall we say that the eagles have landed? maybe yes, because it is in excellence where eagles dare. |
| May-01-04 | | ruylopez900: Does anyone know who has been invited to Wijk for next year's Group A (if such invites have gone out already??) I think Wijk has a better chance of producing exciting chess since there is a larger field (more likely someone will score 1/2 pt more if draw) and also it isn't a RR, so you could lose the tournament to some one you never play (unlikely though). Correct me if it actually is a RR, but I was under the impression that it is not. |
| Jun-10-04 | | salokin: It's actually Wijk AAN Zee (two a's!) |
Sep-22-04
 | | Phoenix: acirce has posted this link somewhere else, and it gives a list of participants so far (12 currently, need 2 more). http://www.coruschess.com/article.p...
List of participants so far, include: Anand (2782), Kramnik (2770), Morozevich (2743), Leko (2741), Adams (2738), Topalov (2737), Svidler (2727), Ponomariov (2722), Grischuk (2705), Short (2684), Van Wely (2680), Sokolov (2679), average rating is 2726(!).
IMHO this is an incredible lineup! Even if Kasparov doesn't show, this could be the strongest tournament in awhile. Lots to look forward to come January! |
Sep-22-04
 | | square dance: that is a tournament! any announcements on who will be at linares next year? |
Sep-22-04
 | | Willem Wallekers: <It's actually Wijk AAN Zee (two a's!)>
It's Wijk aan Zee with 2 lower case a's. |
Nov-29-04
 | | cu8sfan: Funny how chessgames.com changes. Last year's Corus tournament has 11 pages of kibitzing and today we get this amount for ONE DAY of a tournament of that size! |
Nov-29-04
 | | Reisswolf: Doesn't the name actually mean "Little Village on the Sea"? |
Nov-29-04
 | | cu8sfan: According to http://babelfish.altavista.com/ "wijk" means "district" so it is the district by the sea. |
Nov-29-04
 | | suenteus po 147: <cu8sfan> This site has had quite a boon in the last year of increased user registration and participation. It will be interesting to see if that increase continues or if it will top off. |
