Feb-07-04    Helloween: Another excellent showing by the chap. I appreciate his style of play, although his tendency to overlook good opportunites for himself in positions has risen since his WC challenger days. He still plays a very extremely tricky and fighting game to the end. I've seen him swindle a win with a Rook and 2 pawn vs. Bishop, Knight and 4 pawn ending on playchess.com in 3+2 minute blitz! He may be an equally strong annotator/writer. He is a straight-shooter with a strong vocabulary and diction skills. I greatly enjoy his columns. R+2P against NB+4P is a win for the player with the Knight, Bishop, and 4 pawns. So if he did indeed lose with the Rook and 2 pawns, then it was probably only because he was supposed to.
