| Jul-05-04 | | ruylopez900: Chessgames.com, you are just carrying the top division correct? I do believe there is a U1800 and a U1600 section as well, but I would understand if you didn't put those in the database. |
| Jul-05-04 | | stormflyer: <ruylopez900> There are actually sections for Unrated, and every 200-point group from U1200 all the way to U2200, then there is the Open section. All of these games are from the Open. |

| Jul-05-04 | | dac1990: I would've gone into the U1400 if I lived a bit closer to Philadelphia. But since I don't, I'm stuck in Rochester. |
| Jul-05-04 | | ruylopez900: <stormflyer> Thanks.
<dac1990> I know, some of my friends went to Philly by van from here in the Great White North :P |

After nine grueling rounds, GM-elect Varuzhan Akobian has bested the field at the 32nd Annual World Open! He scored 7.5 out of 9 and finished one-half point ahead of the field. Chasing him were nine Grandmasters who finished with 7 points: Hikaru Nakamura, Evgeny Najer, Jaan Ehlvest, Ilya Smirin, Jiri Stocek, Igor Novikov, Alexander Ivanov, Alexander Oniscuk, and Abhijit Kunte. Four IM norms were made by FM John Bartholomew, Salvijus Bercys, FM Dmitry Zilberstein and Dmitro Kedyk. This year's competition was built upon 1208 participants and 89 re-entries! |

| Jul-09-04 | | Fulkrum: The World Open was a lot of fun. I am a bit disappointed that the open section was in a different room than the other sections. While at these tournaments I find enjoyable to get up from my on occasion and check out one of the top boards. Especially if I've already made time control and the GM's are blitzing to move 40. This is a bit more difficult at the WO as opposed to say Foxwoods. Anyway, I highly recommend the trip to the World Open, Foxwoods, The Bell or any of these other big tournaments even if you are living far far away (i.e. Rochester). |
| Jul-09-04 | | iron maiden: <Fulkrum> I take it you participated. What section were you in? |
| Jul-14-04 | | strahman: they should change the format. One should be like premier another just the regular. |
| Jul-16-04 | | Fulkrum: I played in the U1600. I fantasized that I would win it all and get one of those oversized checks (just like Happy Gilmore collects), a trophy and my name on the front page....alas I went 1-4-1. I've had better tournaments. |
| Aug-01-04 | | shr0pshire: <chessgames.com> would it be possible to get the last 100 or so games from the world open on this site? The updated the amount of games on their site, so now there is 310. Thanks |
| Sep-23-04 | | Cerebrate2006: I was in the U1600 (yes i know this post is really late)...i only managed +5-3=1. coming from last year where i got second in the u1400 section...this was a disapointment |
