Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-15-04  nikolaas: Wow! Scottish and brittish champion in the same year!
Aug-15-04  Everett: He's taking over this enchanted isle!
Aug-16-04  shr0pshire: Not to take away from GM Rowson's victory, but the top British GMs did not show. Out of the top 10 ranked British players, only Mark Hebden played.

Still congrats to Rowson for back to back championships!

Aug-16-04  Lawrence: <shr0pshire>, how much was first prize? Is it just that there's not enough money in it to attract the really top players?
Aug-16-04  tomh72000: Adams was set to play, but withdrew at the last moment for some reason.
Aug-16-04  shr0pshire: I actually don't know <Lawrence> I just saw Short's and Adams' names missing from the list of partiicpants so I went on Fide's website and found out 9 out of the top ten english players did not play in their championship.

acirce: <Out of the top 10 ranked British players, only Mark Hebden played.> < 9 out of the top ten english players did not play in their championship.> Britain and England is not the same! Both Rowson and Motwani are higher rated than England's #10 and they played.
Aug-17-04  Rowson: Go! Rowson i dont care if adams didn't play Rowson is still number 1 for me!
Aug-17-04  NoodleHead: The 1st prize was £10,000.
Aug-18-04  Lawrence: <NoodleHead>, thanks, and I see that there were some other juicy prizes too. Guess they just don't need the money.

Aug-18-04  Everett: Andrew Greet had an excellent tournament considering his rating. 7.5/11 is very good, and he had a nice attacking game against Rowson, ending in a draw.
Aug-19-04  NoodleHead: <Lawrence> You are very much welcome
Aug-19-04  GBKnight: There was a change in the rules this year, to prevent British Commonwealth subjects playing (specifically, Indian players won the British Championship the two previous years). This does not seem to have improved the overall strength.
