chessgames.com: The Harmonie 2004 tournament from the Netherlands is complete. Four players tied with 6/9 but Yuri Kuzubov won the event on tie-breaks, which was based on both the results of games played against the leaders, and the Sonnenborn-Berger system.

Be sure to check out Van Der Wiel's neat queen-sacrifice miniature Van der Wiel vs S Ernst, 2004.

cu8sfan: <chesscookie> Actually it's <Sonneborn-Berger> which is a way to determine a winner in a round robin tournament. Very similar to the Buchholz system which can only be used for the Swiss system. I don't know if you speak any German or if Babelfish is mighty enough but here is a page in German that explains it: http://www.schachecke.de/systeme/so... and one for the Buchholz system: http://www.schachecke.de/systeme/bu.... By the way the Buchholz system was used to determine the winner of the Zürich Meister (2004) which was won by Aloyzas Kveinys.

cu8sfan: Lol! Babelfish translates <Sonneborn-Berger> into <Sun fount mountain he>! <Buchholz> is <book wood> which it actually means.
Jan-02-05  chesscookie: <cu8sfan> Thank you..thats interesting.
Jan-02-05  Troewa: The tournament was held in GroniNgen by the way, not in 'Gronigen' which it says on the main page.
Jan-02-05  aw1988: This tournament reminds me of a certain female wizard.
