chessgames.com: Discussion forum is now available for the Wijk aan Zee 2005 tournament. Games start January 15th.

From the official site http://www.coruschess.com/

<The Corus Chess Tournament has three main tournaments. They are played according to the 'round robin' system, whereby each competitor plays in turn against every other during the tournament. All three Grandmaster groups have 14 players and start on Saturday 15 January. All rounds begin at 13.30 hours, except for the last round on 30 January, which begins at 12.30 hours (Grandmaster Group C starts at 11.30 hours).

There are rest days on Wednesday 19, Monday 24 and Thursday 27 January. The move-rate in the Grandmaster groups A and B is: 40 moves in 2 hours, followed by 20 moves in 1 hour, followed by 30 minutes extra per player to finish the game.>

suenteus po 147: <chessgames.com> Thanks for the timely creation of this page! You can be sure at least three to fours pages will be filled before the tournament even begins. If nothing else, kibitzer's have to make their predictions for <cu8sfan>'s prognostication tournament. This is definitely a site that cares about their users needs.
Jan-09-05  ajit: Thanks a lot CG, Love ya!
Jan-09-05  cade: Awesome thanks for the page. Now just to wait for the pairings to be announced. My prediction for Corus is that Nigel Short will give a surprisingly strong performance and finish in the top 5.
Jan-09-05  vanW: I'll be visiting this tournament frequently as I live around the corner! Hope to add some usefull comments from GM's as they review their games! vanW

Jan-09-05  Franz the Stampede: no predictions, but what about Mamedyarov vs Karjakin vs Carlsen in group B?

I feel like they'll play some really exciting chess...

Jan-09-05  morostyle: i think anand will win it. besides that iam really looking to Lekos performance i want to see if he improved his game. he said after WC match with kramnik he learnd a lot from it. i really wanna see how he plays. iam expecting a strong performance from Leko and a tough fight between Leko and Anand for number one in this tournament

cu8sfan: Is Kramnik healthy again or will he skip the tournament again in the final hour? Should be interesting to see how he's coming back after the match with Leko. Too bad Kasparov isn't playing...
Jan-09-05  Dedalus: Fantastic field, no less! If Kasparov had been there too, it could have been called one of the absolutely strongest tournaments ever! EVERYBODY is there (except the already mentioned No1).

What I want:
Short to score some amazing, surprising wins.
And Morozevich to bounce back after his dreadful Russian Ch. If any of these two were to win the whole thing, then I would be very, very pleased! If not, then I would like Polgar, Topalov or Kramnik to win.

Furthermore I want Anand to lose.

What I believe:
1. Topalov
2. Kramnik
3. Grischuk

4. Polgar
5. Anand
etc.

Most excited to see:
1. Short (vs topelite, finally!)
2. Topalov (played my favorite game of last year! And was the most impressing player at the Fide KO-tournament, despite losing in the ties against kasim...). 3. Polgar (she is gonna kick some butt! Anand - look out! I predict Polgar beats Anand in their game.) 4. Kramnik (the world champion, no doubt about that... if he is physically ready, his beautiful, deeeeeep play will triumph, despite my prediction above... that predicition is based upon a belief of mine that he isn´´t quite fit yet, hasnt yet recovered from his fantastic performance vs Leko). Kramnik is the greatest player in the field.

I have taken the risk of excluding Leko from my top5. This will probably not hold... But I gamble on him having motivation trouble...

Jan-09-05  TheEyeOfMordor: My prediction for final standings.
1.Anand
2.Leko
3.Kramnik
4.Morozevich
5.Topolov
Jan-09-05  cade: Adams is very likely to be in the top5 due to his ability to get many +1s with the white pieces. If Adams gets a favourable draw and has white vs mostly weaker players he is a good bet to win. Polgar might play a few good games but at the end of the tournament i see her in the bottom 4.

  refutor: <leko might make a good bet>

what about kramnik? 7:1 odds...i say put all your $$$ on krammy...he's about due to have a good tournament

Jan-09-05  hintza: To complicate matters, there are doubts about Kramnik's health and fitness. If he has recovered sufficiently, then he has real chances of winning. If not, then Topalov and Leko at 9.8 and 10-1 respectively look good money to me.
Jan-09-05  morostyle: i correct my predictions 1.Leko 2. Anand 3. Topalov !!!! the ones that forget Leko he will show u all !!!!!!!!!! @#$% OFF
Jan-09-05  Phoenix: Here's my predictions for the final standings...I don't see the schedule for round 1 yet.

1.Anand
2.Topalov
3.Svidler
4.Leko
5.Kramnik (or Grischuk if Bad Vlad runs at the last second again)

Jan-09-05  Phoenix: <cu8sfan> You're just doing the "A" section, correct?
Jan-09-05  arielbekarov: And here is the prediction for the first five places in the A section :

1. Judit Polgar

2. Svidler
3. Kramnik, Anand
5. Morozevich

I just say JUDIT POLGAR !
Ariel

Jan-09-05  FELO: Well, Corus is a really strong and interesting tournament. More open than Linares, and with less draws games of course. The battle will be hard. I think Anand is very strong at this moment an he is the favourite, Kramnik and Leko of course too, but , take care with Grischuk, because he is in ascendent performance due to his age.!! Another interesting point of view is What about Bruzón ?, Do you think that he will be an easy target for sharks ?, I do not think so, Bruzón is a real fighter ( He won 4 games in a row in Group B last year !! ), and won the young ch, too, He has the spirit of figth of all cubans players, .

cu8sfan: <Phoenix> Yes, section A will be the section covered in the prediction contest. But I'm sure we'll have interesting games in all the sections.
Jan-09-05  russep: How come Kasparov doesn't play in Corus?
Jan-09-05  Phoenix: <cu8sfan> Thanks for the answer.

<russep> He probably would have this year, except FIDE had initially scheduled his match with Kasim at around the same time as Corus. FIDE messed up again, and the match was postponed two weeks after the roster for Corus had filled up.

Jan-09-05  chesscookie: I think something needs to be done about <morostyle's> posts. They are just blatantly awful and make no sense at times.
Jan-09-05  randowan: Personally I think it's gonna be interesting to see Bruzon. If his capacity is anything near his reputation, we might be in for a surprise - at least in one or two games.
