Shams: <Pink Panther> your comments reek of sexism, which should be embarrassing for you. YES, she had an extended hiatus from the game. What she did during this time off is immaterial, but obviously you like using phrases like "knocked up". Whatever. The point is, if Adams or Topalov or any other top-ten player took a year off and then came back, you would not say that any player who lost to them should retire from the game. It is only because she is female that you say this.

Yeah she will be a bit rusty, but it is Wijk aan zee and I`m sure she`s prepared and spoiling for a fight. Chess hasn`t changed that much in the last few months, and there is no shame for Svidler if he loses to Polgar. The shame is on you, Panther.

Jan-15-05  apple head: You guys under-estimate Ponomariov, and Polgar. Though absent for a while, I believe that they might shock up all and have a 0-1 Anand 1-0 Polgar and a 0-1 Pono!!

lostemperor: <dickweed> and others. Don't worry http://www.coruschess.com will have the live games ready in time. They also had the pairings in time. Chessgames.com will cover Grischuk vs Anand live.

Btw. chessgames.com, a suggestion, not always the strongest participants on paper will be the most interesting game. I personally think Short vs Adams, Morozevich vs van Wely and Topalov vs Ponomariov will be fighting games. Perhaps voting for a live game coverage is a nice thought?

Joshka: What are the qualifications for participation in the 'A' group? I think some players in the "B" group have higher ratings than 'A'? Also Naka beats Karjakian in a head to head match, and he's not even there??
Jan-15-05  Hanada: Here are my predictions if it is not too late to get into the game.

Grischuk-Anand 0-1

Short-Adams 1-0

Morozevich-van Wely 1-0

Bruzon-Kramnik 0-1

Topalov-Ponomariov 1/2

Polgar-Svidler 1/2

Sokolov-Leko 1/2

percyblakeney: Morozevich-van Wely has been easy wins for Moro in earlier Corus tournaments:

Morozevich vs Van Wely, 2000
Van Wely vs Morozevich, 2001
Morozevich vs Van Wely, 2002

Jan-15-05  pkjohn146: <PinkPanther> I see you've been having those late night conversations with <Jaymthegenius> again. Are you two related in any way? Just curious.
Jan-15-05  J.A. Topfke: Some early pictures of Corus 2005 can be found here:

Jan-15-05  Stavrogin: PinkPanther keeps proving he is an idiot.
Jan-15-05  Stavrogin: Only premium members... That is just soooo silly! Well, well, no live games means more meaningful timew doing better things. Have a nice day everybody and bye.

cu8sfan: <Only premium members... That is just soooo silly!> Well the problem is that they don't have the power to make it available to all. So how else do you filter who can see it and who can't? If you're a capitalist (and remember, they won the Cold War) you let the rich people attend. If you're a communist there's no live games for no one... (-:

Shams: <Stavrogin> not to mention that it says on your bio that you are "happily in love"...presumably with a lovely Swedish girl. Trust me, if I were happily in love with a Swedish woman I would not be watching chess tonight. :)
Jan-15-05  eqo29: Hi all!

Does anyone know for sure that the games from Corus will be broadcasted Live at their website?

azaris: Well, I've got a cold so turns out it's a perfect excuse to sit at home and watch chess.

When the games start, I hope all the "non-premium" members will kibitz on this page instead and follow the games live somewhere else. I also encourage the "premium" members to do the same.

Personally, I'm not going to join Chessgames.com until they come up with better payment methods, but I can sympathize with their resource costs. It remains to be seen if shortchanging a large part of the community will actually help the congestion.

cu8sfan: <ChessBase on Corus> I like the pictures. Topalov looks scared, Polgar looks drunk and Ponomariov will be disqualified if he does that...

Shams: <cu8sfan> I have to admit I had to click on the link to see what sort of behavior Ponomariov was demonstrating that would get him disqualified. I must say I had hoped for something more naughty.

you can tell he`s TOTALLY talking to a girl he likes! Look at his eyes. Nobody looks like that when they`re talking to their mom. Come on, Ruslan, who`s the lucky babushka?

Jan-15-05  TIMER: I think Anand will win outright with +4, Topolov second with +3, Polgar come joint third with +2 with one of Kramnik/Leko/Adams. I predict all games will be drawn in first three rounds apart from Topolov winning against van wely in round 3. I would like my prediction of first three rounds to be wrong and see wins from Anand, Polgar, Adams, the more decisive games the better.
