Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-03-05  cade: Congratulations /sarcasm
Apr-03-05  THE pawn: What's the cork chess congress?
Apr-03-05  hintza: A chess congress played in Cork, Ireland. Fairly obvious I would have thought.
Apr-03-05  THE pawn: Didn't know about Cork, sorry.
Apr-03-05  hintza: Don't be sorry! It is not a particularly famous place to my knowledge! I just happen have been to Ireland :-)
Apr-03-05  Christian Sword: Did they really play so many games using the uncommon opening A00
Apr-03-05  hintza: <Christian Sword> No, if you look at the games you will find most of the A00 games have been misclassified. Some kind of error maybe, or <chessgames.com> just hasn't sorted out the ECO codes yet for whatever reason.
Apr-03-05  biglo: Cork was designated the European City of Culture for a year (open to cities within the European Union). This was a European Union Chess Championship held in conjunction with that.
Apr-03-05  PaddyAlekhine: Excellent choice. Although I would´ve preferred Belfast.

chessgames.com: The PGN files we got from the official site were full of errors; some of them even had the wrong year! We're still sorting out the names, ECO codes, etc. The openings should be corrected soon. Thanks.
Apr-03-05  aw1988: The wrong YEAR? This is taken from the actual scoresheets? I hope not, I would be quite worried if some of the players didn't know it was 2005. I wonder what some of the years were listed as?
Apr-04-05  PawnOfTheDead: I believe that one of the players - Jesus Nogueiras - put down the date as 0000. He mentioned something about it being his birthday. Apparently he missed the last round - had an appointment with a cross.
Apr-04-05  Pawsome: My nomination for the Bad Taste Kibbitz of the year is the Jesus Nogueiras crack by <PawnOftheDead> : (
Apr-04-05  biglo: Also he shows his ignorance as it was a Euro event except for the invited Mr Benjamin and so Cubans were not included plus there was no year zero.
Apr-06-05  PawnOfTheDead: <Pawsome>Would I get a trophy if I won?

<Biglo>Thanks very much for pointing out the factural errors in my post. This is a grave matter for me as I wrote the post solely in order to educate the ill-informed about Jesus and any factual mistakes therein are therefore of huge embarassment to me. Get a life, you silly yak.
