|Aug-30-05|| ||cade: Well done McShane. He needs to win back some rating points with performances like this.|
|Aug-30-05|| ||jamesmaskell: Its a good comeback to to a certain extent quietening the critics. He was playing some seriously tough players and did a proper job.|
As for Korchnoi...age catching up with him?
|Aug-30-05|| ||percyblakeney: Korchnoi started well and was in the lead after half the tournament, but lost his last games, among them this one on time in a close to winning position:|
Korchnoi vs A Volokitin, 2005
|Sep-04-05|| ||Blitz4265: Korchnoi is the best according to me if we compare his age.|
|Sep-05-05|| ||lopium: I only see a crushed Korchnoi. He is very strong for his age, but doesn't do the job against younger people I think. Or not always, such as here.|
|Sep-05-05|| ||Astardis: Korchnoi's problem has always been and still is that he plays for a win. Even in a drawn position - especially against lower rated players - he'd rather play a dubious move than accept a quick draw. This explains his completely disatrious record agains Kasparov, Karpov and some other of the strongest.
And this also, next to considering his age, esplains his very mixed results in the last few years.|
|Sep-06-05|| ||lopium: Ahahahzz!! What about Fischer then? Did he always played for a win? I think that I think yes, I've read it too, here by Kibitzerszzz too. He was better than Korchnoi I think, same descrptions as you wrote, but not that bad.|
|Sep-06-05|| ||percyblakeney: <This explains his completely disatrious record agains Kasparov, Karpov and some other of the strongest>|
At least it was disastrous against Kasparov, against some other modern World Champions it wasn't that bad, not counting draws in this database it's:
|Sep-06-05|| ||lopium: Korchnoi seemed strong! ahahaz! He lost a lot by the time, sure of that.|
|Sep-06-05|| ||Astardis: ok, a correction: Korchnoi's record against rather positional players is not that bad, althoug 18-33 against Karpov is still quite clear. it is notable though, that he has an even score with Fischer.
Still, I keep saying that he lacks willingnes to draw a game against a weaker opponent. He himself said that referring to his one win facing 19 losses against Kasparov.|
|Sep-06-05|| ||Astardis: not meaning to say that Kasparov was weaker than Korchnoi...|
|Dec-23-05|| ||lopium: Ciutat seems a Catalán word. Sure it was in Spain, region of Barcelona. May I'm wrong.|
