Apr-10-06  Mameluk: I really like the division Women and General. Interesting that Kosintseva´s play in the general section while Stefanova here.
Apr-10-06  AlexandraThess: Yelena Dembo is doing fine so far but she has been rather unstable recently ,so i wouldn't put a tenner for her. Hope to see Anna-Maria Botsari in the Top 10 at the end.

Apr-10-06  petrovalovski: Yes it is.

Appaz: <<lostemperor> That doesn't matter neither is Turkey :)> 3.05% of Turkey is located in Europe (16.03% of the population, including Istanbul), the rest is located in Asia.

Appaz: <lostemperor> and <petrovalovski: Armenia, Azerbijan, Israel...> Wiki has some interesting reading about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transc...

Including Israel in an European Ch. must be only for political reasons, as there are no geographical and doubtful cultural reasons.

lostemperor: I believe the European Women's Champion will receive the male GM-title if her performance is 2600+. Tie-breaker games will decide who will get the title in case of a tie.
Apr-13-06  percyblakeney: <lostemperor> If so, Atalik or Bosboom Lanchava would be a comparatively weak GM. Both are below 2400 and Bosboom Lanchava has never reached it. Their performances are close to 2600 at the moment. But if Mariya Muzychuk in fifth place wins her last games she will have acceptable chances to become a GM in spite of being just 2172 :-)

Susan Polgar calls it cheapening of the title if I'm not mistaken. But the Fide rule was the continental women's champion gets the GM title if her performance is 2600+. Kosteniuk and Peng Zhoaqin got it that way. But I see Eketerina Atalik did not score the necessary 2600 performance.
