Aug-18-06  shimmy: Parker - Rowson will almost certainly be a fairly quick draw, in my opinion :)
Aug-18-06  Rawprawn: It is rather sad that chess is the only game where people fight to get to the last round then agree to share it and rob the fans of a spectacle. Rather like Chelsea and Man U lining up at Wembley for the cup final, running around in their own half for 30 mins and then going home. So how many moves do we think 9? Or maybe they play one of those agreed draw routines that go on for 20 moves or so?
Aug-18-06  mack: Wahey, Parker-Rowson in the final round, winner takes all. What an excellent end to what's been a rather impotent championships, let's be honest.
Aug-18-06  Bonol: Parker-Rowson are giving it a shot. Lallic is the suprise draw to me.
Aug-18-06  shimmy: Maybe not after all... Parker's not a professional, and doesn't need the money as much as some of his colleages, so maybe he's giving it a shot. Lalic in quick draw shock?! Roughly 50% of Bogdan's games are quick draw, no surprise there!
Aug-18-06  shimmy: And by the way, I disagree that the "fans" are "robbed of a spectacle". After all, how much are the fans paying for the privilege? These guys are playing at their own expense, it's entirely different from the overpaid footballers off Man Utd and Chelsea.
Aug-18-06  Bonol: Lallic pert is 15.Kc1?? correct, if so the position is losing hands down for white after 15....fxe4 16.Bxe7 Nxe7 surely. Am i missing something
Aug-18-06  mack: Is Rowson's a7 pawn free to snatch?

chrisowen: Better late than never. Great chess throughout the championships. Pert looking to carry the bacon vs Grant and Parker vs Rowson for the title! Me, I'm off to Thanet, regards
Aug-18-06  Bonol: Parker-Rowson prediction 17...g5 trying to expose the white king. Or 1/2 1/2 lol as both players lose there nerve.
Aug-18-06  Theologue: Rowson's going for the win! Great to see.
Aug-18-06  Stevens: Is the Parker - Rowson game a mess or is just me?! The position looks so odd. And what compensation did Rowson get for the loss of the a pawn?
Aug-18-06  tino72: Well he has White's king in the centre, a well positioned (I think) knight at g4, a threatening fianchettoed bishop on b7...but is it enough? Way too difficult for me. Certainly not like any grandmaster draw I've ever seen! I'm guessing they are thinking: "One of us wins, we win outright for sure. If we draw it could be a three-way play-off."

Octavia: <shimmy> what does Parker do? I saw him win the scottish when he was ~ 14. I felt sorry for him, because he was sitting all alone - after such an achievement, it seemed kind of a let down. No wonder he didn't stay in Scotland.
Aug-18-06  Bonol: Parker-Rowson after 21. e5 the game looks equal. Draw predicted.
Aug-18-06  tino72: From a UK newspaper a week last Sunday:

"Parker won the Scottish title aged 18 at his first attempt, including a win against Rowson, 17 at the time. Parker declined a place in the Scotland Olympiad team that year preferring to continue to represent England. He had moved north with his parents to Edinburgh. Parker abandoned full-time chess in favour of a 'proper job' in financial fund management in London, but still found time to secure the grandmaster title. "

Aug-18-06  Bonol: Looks like Rowsons got this one. White got in a right tangle at the time control
Aug-18-06  Bonol: How does Parker stop the black rooks taking control of the 5t rank.
Aug-18-06  Bonol: if Parker plays 41.kd3 then 41...b4 looks promising.
Aug-18-06  Theologue: <Bonol> After 21...e5 I thought black started something interesting, nowhere near a draw. Now it looks like black will win, but it may take a while and can go wrong at any one move.
Aug-18-06  shimmy: <octavia> he is a very successful fund manager in the City.
Aug-18-06  shimmy: Rowson is just winning now, I think.
Aug-18-06  GBKnight: Parker resigned ! Congratulations to Rowson on the hatrick of titles !
Aug-18-06  Theologue: It's over. Well done Rowson!
