PhilFeeley: Not many Canadians post to this site. This was a good tournament with a surprise winner. Congratualtions to Igor!
Aug-30-06  TheBB: Is there a difference between being "closed" and "invitational" or do they put both in the name just to REALLY make the point clear, that unwanted players can get stuffed? :)

PhilFeeley: I don't know which countries use the term "Closed" in their tournament names. I always thought it meant only nationals were allowed to enter, ensuring a citizen won the national championship, but I could be wrong. It also may just refer to a rating level.

jamesmaskell: Thinking about it, would a closed be open to all as long as they are say rated in a certain bracket, whilst an invitations is a pure only upon invitation job? That is the difference, I would imagine. A closed invitational is obviously an invitational anyway, the closed part is unnecessary...
Aug-30-06  bob000: Unless you get invited but don't fit the bracket "closed" refers to. But that would be mean.
Aug-31-06  doremi: even meaner is when you qualified for the closed but did not get invited
