| Sep-15-06 | | FHBradley: Certainly not in his short-term memory. |

 | | chrisowen: Williams with black, bring it Gormally |
Sep-15-06
 | | chrisowen: Gormally vs Williams 1.d4 f5 and....it's war |
| Sep-15-06 | | AdrianP: <chrisowen> Not only war but total lunacy...! Is this a book variation - it looks like utter madness. |
Sep-15-06
 | | PhilFeeley: Things do not look good for Williams. Gormally has stomped all over his Dutch defense: After 16. h4

 | | jamesmaskell: Anyone catch the Times chess article today...nice one Ray Keene. Gormally will never shake off that infamous fight! In a selfish thing too. Im on page 2... :) |
Sep-15-06
 | | PhilFeeley: Wow! Gormally crushes in 19 moves. I guess the fight doesn't affect him much. |
| Sep-15-06 | | AdrianP: That was pretty brutal.
I guess Williams had it coming to him with 1. ...f5?! 2. ...h6? 3. ...g5? 4. ...Rh7? ! |
| Sep-15-06 | | tino72: I expect Williams was hoping for the following:
L Breivik vs S Williams, 2005
A quick check through the openings explorer showed over 50 games up to 3...g5. Not sure whether 4.e4 has been played before, but it looks pretty obvious. (4...Nf6 5.e5, etc). Easy to say that with hindsight, of course.... |

 | | KingG: <AdrianP: That was pretty brutal. I guess Williams had it coming to him with 1. ...f5?! 2. ...h6? 3. ...g5? 4. ...Rh7? !> In his book, 'Play the Classical Dutch', Williams recommends, 1.d4 f5 2.Bg5 h6 3.Bh4 g5 4.e4<This is White's sharpest reply> 4...Nf6<This is Black's only good move, and creates a strange position>. Seems odd to call 4...Nf6 the only good move, and then play 4...Rh7. Of course, 4...Nf6 may have been busted since then, i haven't checked. |

 | | chrisowen: Gormally crushing the dutch, awesome |
| Sep-15-06 | | mack: Aha, Gormally proves what we've known all along - that Bg5 is by far and away the best weapon against the Dutch. Williams' ...g5 was plain suicidal, though. Short isn't messing around this afternoon, either - Fried Liver Attack vs. Hebden. There's bloody murder all over Liverpool. For a change. |
| Sep-15-06 | | mack: Sorry, meant to say that I thought we were HEADING for a Fried Liver. |

 | | PhilFeeley: It looks like Short is in a bit of trouble now:
After Hebden's 37...f3

 | | PhilFeeley: All of the games look really interesting this round. What a great tournament! I'll bet the draw ratio is way down, too. |
| Sep-15-06 | | mack: Nosher's up two pawns now - who thinks it will be enough? |
Sep-15-06
 | | PhilFeeley: Short has managed to wiggle out of it somehow. Great work! |
| Sep-15-06 | | zerathul: there will be a sort of tie break if some players share the first place ? |
| Sep-15-06 | | cicero1974: <zerathul: there will be a sort of tie break if some players share the first place ?> No, I'm sure they won't bother. It's only a friendly game after all. |
| Sep-15-06 | | Youjoin: Short won! |
Sep-15-06
 | | Tomlinsky: Short wins in the end. |
| Sep-15-06 | | AdrianP: It will only be a share of first if McShane's game is decisive. |
Sep-15-06
 | | Tomlinsky: I meant he won his game. I had 1000 chessbucks on that :) |
Sep-15-06
 | | jamesmaskell: YES!!!!! Ive made a profit on this tournament on Short. Please McShane, bring me more Chessbucks! <preparing to go to Beer page> |
| Sep-15-06 | | gmgomes: what happened to McShane´s Game? is the feed down? |
