Oct-16-06  DUS: Congratulations to young (17 y.o.) IM Zaven Andriasian of Armenia! He is the new Champion of the World among junior U20 players.
Oct-17-06  samsal27: <DUS> Does he become a GM by virtue of this victory?
Oct-17-06  DUS: <samsal27> Yes, as it follows from below recent info taken from

http://armchess.am/

"World Juniors and Girls Championships 2006 came to its end in Yerevan, Armenia. 17 years old chess players Zaven Andriasian (Armenia) and Shen Yang (China) became world junior and girl champions.

Andriasian the clear winner of the first place, will obtain GM norm according to FIDE Regulations. He also got the right of participation in World Chess Cup."

In

http://armchess.am/

there is other interesting info in particular about the tournament of girls.

Oct-19-06  samsal27: <DUS> Ok, thanks. Do you have any idea whether he trained with GM Levon Aronian at any stage?
Oct-19-06  DUS: <samsal27> I think they know each other in person. But unfortunately I don't have any exact information on your question.
Oct-19-06  samsal27: <DUS> No problem. Knowing the helpful and friendly nature of Aronian, I am sure that he must be helping out all the upcoming youngsters in Armenia.
Nov-05-06  CrystalFrost: <samsal27>I sure thinks so..
