Dec-24-06  DCP23: Kateryna just won the 4th rapid game (with Black).

The opening was the Scotch Game, Rublevsky's favorite. The endgame looked to me like Negi might have missed a draw somewhere.

Rolfo: Negi won 5th i think.
Dec-24-06  arifattar: <Katya has become a huge draw in India. Her photo has been splashed all over the front pages of the Indian newspapers. Such events are good for the promotion of chess, especially in our country. Hats off to the organisers!!> Which newspapers you are talking about. In yesterday's Mumbai edition of The Times of India, there was a small article on the back page of the sports section. I think it was two columns wide. And that's all I have found of the coverage.
Dec-24-06  s4life: <malthrope: <samsal27> I'll bet she has! She's a sweetie and so honest... ;-) After her win in game #6 (where Pari, as we all know, missed a forced mate in 6) she said, "I was very lucky.">

Wow... I thought she was gonna say she was thinking about watching some random TV show through the whole game, coz you know... that's the standard line nowadays when you are ahead in the match score... hats off to her for actually setting a good example.

Dec-24-06  Karpova: Though Parimarjan is still so young he's much wiser and mature than some older players who come up with ridiculous accusations once they lose a game or two (or a whole match).

alexmagnus: Will the game 6 (12) ever be played??? I don't see any broadcst
Dec-24-06  Aspirador: If you look at http://www.amitychessacademy.com/li... you can read at the bottom left that Negi won game 12. Something probably went wrong with the live broadcast.

alexmagnus: OUCH that game was really bad. How could she drop a piece that early?
Dec-24-06  samsal27: <Indeed that's the mark of a champion to take the victories & defeats graciously and offer due apologizes when 'luck' enters the picture> Katya is a Champion one hundred percent!!
Dec-24-06  sheaf: negi lacks experience;; he is brilliant but katya seems to have a better understanding of chess... he is getting outplayed in complex positions;; apart from game six where negi missed a mate in 6 i dont think he ever had a serious chance throughout the 1st phase of the match

Ulhumbrus: Negi is still learning. Capablanca and Lasker would both advise him to try to learn from his defeats, learn what to avoid, find out the reasons for a loss.
Dec-25-06  DCP23: Kateryna got 2.5 points out of the first 3 blitz games, thus winning the match. The final score will be known after they play 3 more games.

Congratulations to Katya!

Dec-25-06  chesslearning: <DCP23>, yeah that's definitely a beauty!
Dec-25-06  Karpova: Draw agreed in the last blitz game.
Lahno won every stage of the match which is quite impressive! Classical: 3.5-2.5
Rapid: 4-2
Blitz 3.5-2.5
Dec-25-06  DCP23: The final match score is 11-7 for Katya.

Specifically, she won the Classical part 3.5-2.5, then she won the Rapid part 4-2, then she won the Blitz part 3.5-2.5.

Rolfo: I thought this match would be much closer, obviously young Negi need more time. Thinking about it, the difference here was experience..
Dec-25-06  malthrope: Congratulations to the new champ WGM & IM Kateryna Lahno! Hope you have a great birthday Katya (Dec. 27th) and speedy success on your 3rd GM norm which I'm sure will come in 2007! Congrats also to young GM Parimarjan Negi. You'll get stronger as the years go bye and this early match experience will be of great value to you.

A very merry 'Happy Holiday's' to everyone! :-)))

chancho: Kamsky was beaten early on by Judit Polgar and he later became one heck of a player. Hopefully it will be the same for young Negi.
Dec-25-06  chesslearning: <DCP23>, in that combo you posted, Lahno lost the game after winning the queen. It's a great game.
Dec-25-06  Swapmeet: I loved the 6 classical - 6 rapid - 6 blitz format of this match, a lot of fun to follow. Hopefully there will be more matches like this in the future.

alexmagnus: < speedy success on your 3rd GM norm > She HAS 3 GM-norms. Just needs 2500.
Dec-27-06  samsal27: <I loved the 6 classical - 6 rapid - 6 blitz format of this match, a lot of fun to follow. Hopefully there will be more matches like this in the future.> The format clearly rocked. Kudos to the people who thought of it!!

A video recap of the match, with some live game snippets and small interviews of the players. It doesn't quite last 2 minutes, but hey, who cares?

Jan-02-07  SNiraj: <A video recap of the match, with some live game snippets and small interviews of the players.> These guys have done a great job with the publicity that is for sure!
