| | ahmadov: <square dance: thanks again. too bad. guseinov is a nice kid. ive talked to him on playchess a few times.> This President's Cup was an excellent opportunity for me to meet many of our players, including Mamedyarov, Rauf Mamedov, Nidjat Mamedov, Vasif Durarbayli, Zeinab and Turkan Mamedyarovas etc. I really liked all of them. They are brilliant. Guseinov was the only Azeri who had chances for winning the tournament. So, we all were upset, but I congratulated van Wely immediately after he won. Guseinov was so upset that he did not show up for receving his prize. <btw, did you ever hear anything about that incident during the sutovsky game from the euro championship?> No, what happened there? |

| May-11-07 | | square dance: <No, what happened there?> apparently guseinov went to get coffee at, or around move 10 and when he came back sutovsky made some comment like "its too late for that. it wont help you.". i forget the exact wording, but of course talking to your opponent during a game is against the rules. |

| May-11-07 | | square dance: well, i dont know how one could accidentally utter a comment like that so im guessing it was some sort of psychological ploy by sutovsky. as for guseinov, it would be nice to see him get invitations to more recognizable tournaments. maybe even something like corus B next year. in his last two events he has 9 or 10 wins and 3 losses, all of which were against guys near, or at the top of the tournament. |

Again we see the advantage in Swiss tournaments of a tactical early loss, as Arkadij had in round 4. That ensures much weaker opposition compared to those who have been leading from the start, like Short and Milov, who often fall away at the end. Still, a great win for the top German GM. |
