| Jun-03-07 | | percyblakeney: Gelfand has a fortress like position. |
| Jun-03-07 | | percyblakeney: ...and draw. |
| Jun-03-07 | | cannibal: Draw official! Heroic effort by Gelfand, who had only 2 or 3 minutes left in an extremely passive position, whereas Kasim had almost all of his time left.
In the late endgame, when he had knid of a fortress, but still had to be very careful, he was down to seconds. If you don't go down in such a game, then you'll win the match. |

 | | Marmot PFL: Don't know how they keep playing, i am worn out watching. |
| Jun-03-07 | | Ziggurat: Interesting, sharp play here (game 3, around move 45) - can Kasim pull out a win? |
| Jun-03-07 | | Ziggurat: Suddenly it looks like Gelfand is winning instead. |
| Jun-03-07 | | Ingolf: Kasimdzhanov played some very incomprehensible moves, a4 and Qc3. Why not Nf3 immediately? |
| Jun-03-07 | | cannibal: Ouch. Seems like Kasim miscalculated. Gelfand moves on. |
| Jun-03-07 | | Ziggurat: 0-1, Gelfand is through to the next round. |
| Jun-03-07 | | Mameluk: Congratulations to Gelfand and best wishes into the next round. |
| Jun-03-07 | | euripides: It looked as if Kasim self-destructed in Gelfand's time trouble. |
| Jun-03-07 | | zluria: Yay! Go Gelfand! I knew you could do it! |
| Jun-03-07 | | Wilson H. L.: 2 wins with black in rapid against Kasim : Splendid! Good luck against Kamsky! (seems like an exciting match-up) |
| Jun-03-07 | | RisingChamp: <s4 life> No I dont see why he should say that. There is nothing wrong with a draw. It is a result just like any other. It is also the logical result when neither player wants to risk anything. |
| Jun-03-07 | | Prugno: So now Gelfand is one of the very few players who has managed to overcome Kasim in rapid chess... maybe if the Gheddafi clan had allowed Israelis to play in Libya, the 2004 World Cup would have had a different result. |
| Jun-03-07 | | s4life: <RisingChamp> well, there are plenty of things that are wrong with short draws, but I really dont mind if you think otherwise. |
| Jun-03-07 | | marcwordsmith: At the point in the game where <acirce>'s diagram above was the position, why couldn't White simply exchange queens? I don't see a forced win for Black there at all. What am I missing? |

 | | keypusher: <<I am surprised Kasimdzhanov didn't try harder in the last game, though.> He probably needed a break after difficult game 5. And he is well known as very strong rapid and blitz player and so he is quite confident about his chance to win in tie-breaks.> Many a slip betwixt the cup and lip...though it was certainly reasonable for Kasim to expect victory in rapid. |
| Jun-03-07 | | Ezzy: <.....though it was certainly reasonable for Kasim to expect victory in rapid.> Gelfand played well in the blitz world championship last year, so he is no pushover at blitz. |
Jun-03-07
 | | notyetagm: What a disappointment. I was rooting for Kasimdzhanov and thought he would excel in the rapid games, like he always does. Instead he was routed. |

 | | suenteus po 147: While I'm terribly excited for Gelfand, there couldn't be a worse opponent for Kamsky to face in the second round of games. Gelfand's super solid play and career plus against Kamsky make him the favorite, unfortunately :( |

Gelfand's super solid play and career plus against Kamsky make him the favorite, unfortunately :(> No, I think the rapidly-improving Magnus Carlsen would be a worse opponent for Kamsky. The kid just made World #5 Aronian go to blitz tie-breaks(!) to beat him. They were dead even after 6 classical and 4 rapid games. |
| Jun-04-07 | | cotdt: Kamsky beat Carlsen 2-0 in rapids, but it seems that Carlsen is better now since then. |
| Jun-04-07 | | RisingChamp: <s4life> I am glad you appreciate my freedom of thought... "but there are plenty of things wrong with short draws" is still a definitive assertion which is as yet unsubstantiated. I know its fashionable to complain about draws but that doesnt make draws wrong. |
| Jun-10-07 | | s4life: <RisingChamp> well, it's a matter of taste I guess... I like fighting chess and you are ok with under-20 move draws, what is there to substantiate? |
