 | | cotdt: <chancho: If Topalov had been playing here (instead of Kasim) would he make it past someone like Leko?> Topalov lost to Leko for the right to challenge Kramnik a few years back, but now Topalov is probably stronger than Leko. In any case, I like how Topalov plays more than I do Leko's. |

 | | geraldo8187: kamsky's tournament performance for the match = 2747. Without considering Mtel, this would put his rating up to 2720 or 2721. Having an even score at Mtel ensures that his rating will go even higher than that. For those counting, as long as kamsky doesn't lose rating points in the next round, he would be around 13th or 14th on the ratings list (13th if judit doesn't turn her match around) |

 | | cotdt: For tomorrow's Kamsky-Bacrot game, do you guys think that they will prearrange a draw or will Kamsky try to get another win out of Bacrot? |
 |
May-31-07
 | | plang: "For tomorrow's Kamsky-Bacrot game,"
I would assume the match is over. It would be quite odd if they kept playing. |
 |
| May-31-07 | | arunjangity: <plang> maybe they're playing nintendo |
 |
| May-31-07 | | 4daluvofchess: <geraldo8187>
"kamsky's tournament performance for the match = 2747. "3.5/4 against a 2705 player should be much higher than 2747. Which rating system are you using? |

 | | cotdt: Mig just said that Bacrot and the other guy that lost will be sticking around tomorrow and the next day. |
 |
| May-31-07 | | Illogic: Bacrot's problem with beating the 'elite', in my opinion, was his openings. His openings weren't nearly as good as the top elite players. This match, however, was something else entirely. His head clearly wasn't in the game. Probably he's concentrating more on poker right now. |
 |
May-31-07
 | | RookFile: Kamsky is just a better player, with more experience competing for the world championship. |

 | | MaxxLange: congrats to Gata, whose comeback is one of the best stories in American chess for years. |
 |
May-31-07
 | | chessmoron: Too bad the American media won't recognize it. The best media coverage was in the Kasparov days and Fischer days and a little bit on the Kramnik winning against Topalov. That's about it. |
 |
May-31-07
 | | plang: Compared with his match wins over Anand and Kramnik earlier in his career as well as his well contested WC match with Karpov this seem like "small potatoes". |
 |
May-31-07
 | | dx9293: Agreed. I know it's more than a decade ago, but beating people like Anand, Kramnik, Short, and Salov must make Bacrot seem like a pushover! |

That's 'Muricka for ya! U! S! A!
Kamsky eats pawns and craps out freedom! |

 | | geraldo8187: The 2747 performance rating was computed directly from the FIDE website. Maybe I did it wrong |
 |
May-31-07
 | | Dick Brain: As a rough estimate, 3.5/4 should give a performance rating of around 300 points higher than the opponent's rating. |
 |
May-31-07
 | | Dick Brain: I win is +400
a draw is +0
A loss is -400
Average the results:
(400 + 400 + 400 + 0)/4 = 300

 |
| May-31-07 | | Pulse: As much as I believe Kamsky has made an impressive showing since his return, I do not, unfortunately, think that he will do well in Mexico (if he makes it past the final, that is). Still, hope he beats Kasim or Gelfand. |
 |
| May-31-07 | | Dr.Lecter: Congratulations to Kamsky for winning! I knew he could pull it off! |

 | | karnak64: I'm glad someone else out there shares my disdain for squirrels (whom I suspect of being in cahoots with the terrorists, at least as far as my birdfeeder is concerned). And yes, go Gata! |
 |
| Jun-01-07 | | Dr.Lecter: <Eyal> You mean roadkill instincts? |

 | | Capatin17: according to Chessbase.com Gatas rating peformance was 3047!! http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp... |
 |
Jun-01-07
 | | orio24: Kamsky is probably not better than Gelfand or Kasimdzanov at this moment, but he will have huge advantage because he can rest much more than the winner of those two. Bacrot underperformed a lot in this match. |

 | | keypusher: <Bacrot shows that he has, well, whatever the opposite of killer instinct is. What squirrels have.> Acorns beg to differ. |
