bernieno: 12. Bxf7 wasn't possible, was it? Isn't the bishop on c2 before move 12?
Jun-12-07  euripides: <bernie> I think <Open>'s question refers to the previous game.

bernieno: <euripides> Thank you, i did not notice because i was not here from the beginning.

  Ulhumbrus: 14...Be6 invites 15 d4 and perhaps Ne3 in reply to ...Bc4
Jun-12-07  euripides: <i was not here from the beginning.> entirely understandable - which of us was here from the beginning ? (answers on a postcard to God, please).

bernieno: The Word was here from the beginning according to a certain book...
Jun-12-07  lezoa: I predict Gelfand, the idol of Aronian, will be the 2007 World chess champ !!!
Jun-12-07  Mateo: <euripides: <i was not here from the beginning.> entirely understandable - which of us was here from the beginning ? (answers on a postcard to God, please).> What do you do of the eternal recurrence?
Jun-12-07  euripides: the only good needle's a stuck needle.

bernieno: Looks to me like black is doing more than OK here. But these positions can be very complicated if the game opens up and then Shirov is in his element.

Ulhumbrus: With 16...Qxd5 Aronian has gained an advantage in space. Now one question is whether Shirov will win a pawn.
Jun-12-07  whatthefat: I'm no Shirov, but I'm struggling to formulate a productive plan for White here.

Ulhumbrus: 17 Bb3 attacks the Black Q which defends the e5 pawn a second time.

granyid: this is a last chance for Shirov..win or loss.....no more draws this time..
Jun-12-07  whatthefat: <Ulhumbrus>

17.Bb3 Qxb3

Jun-12-07  Mateo: Ulhumbrus: 17 Bb3 attacks the Black Q <which defends the e5 pawn a second time.> 17...Qxb3?

17.Bb3 Qxb3> That prevents Bb3.

That's right, so <17 Bb3 attacks the Black Q which defends the e5 pawn a second time> is untrue.> No, the statement is true, as Bb3 does attack the Black Q which defends the e5 pawn a second time. It just so happens that White cannot play Bb3, and so must turn down this choice.

acirce: Ok, let's see if Shirov will succeed in equalizing with White.

Ulhumbrus: One possible plan for Aronian is ...Nd7 followed by ...f5 and ..f4
Jun-12-07  whatthefat: <Uhlumbrus>

Okay, true but vapid then.

Anatoly21: Now Bb3 can be played, and looks like a good option.
Jun-12-07  whatthefat: 18.Nd2 seems to be quite a useful move. It prepares both Bb3, and either knight jumping in to e4. It will be interesting to see what Aronian considers the most critical.

Okay, true but vapid then.> No, true and to be considered, but also to be turned down after consideration, and mistaken if chosen.
