 | | YouRang: <lezoa: This guy Gelfand getting older, but becoming tough old man to beat !!!> FYI - Gelfand turns 39 one week from today -- not THAT old. :-) |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: marcwordsmith: yikes! Then it's mate or lose the queen, isn't it? Thanks <Peligroso Patzer>! Continuing the analysis a bit (after 50.Nf2 Rc1+ 51.Nd1 Rc2): 52.b5 Qe4 53.Nc3 Rxd2 54.Nxe4 fxe4 avoids those specific consequences, but would leave White a whole Rook down. |
| Jun-11-07 | | percyblakeney: Gelfand doesn't have one single start in Linares in the ten latest editions. His two Corus participations were in 2002 and 2006, finishing 7-11th and 5-6th. |
| Jun-11-07 | | chessmoron: I have to ask Gelfand: "Isn't it great you didn't drop out the Candidate Matches and won and move on as one of the four players?" |
Jun-11-07
 | | Peligroso Patzer: <acirce: <Did Kamsky ever have the better position in any game during this match?>
*** Yes, he was White in three games.>
Good quip. And I think he still held some advantage for at least a few moves into each of those games, but as you imply <acirce>, other than that, no. |

 | | ketchuplover: congrats to Mr.Gelfand |
| Jun-11-07 | | percyblakeney: Gelfand was very stable, all draws against Kasim and then a tiebreak win, followed by two wins against Kamsky where the latter didn't impress. I don't think Gelfand will reach the top four in Mexico where the opposition is stronger but anything is possible. |
| Jun-11-07 | | cotdt: Gelfand has his seconds and was prepared, while Kamsky was clearly unprepared. |
| Jun-11-07 | | Wilson H. L.: Interesting point : each of his wins so far were with black, and he's still undefeated... I guess that he will be a dangerous, solid opponent in Mexico.
And again : Go Gelf! |
| Jun-11-07 | | AlChess: Well done Boris you deserve it!!! |
| Jun-11-07 | | Knight13: So I guess Kasimdzhanov played better than Kamsky, huh. |
| Jun-11-07 | | micahtuhy: Wow, Gelfand steamrolled Kamsky, and I thought Kamsky was going to the Show. Well, we all make mistakes in our predictions. I think this demonstration of how he's dispatched Gata should mean we can't overlook Gelfand in this coming tournament. I can def see him playing better than a lot of the other players and finishing with a plus score, but I don't see him winning. |
| Jun-11-07 | | Per: Gelfand is an extremely stable and knowledgable player, and as <arunjangity:> pointed out, a master with the Black pieces. It can be extremely frustrating to meet such a player, especially in match play, like a tennis player who just keeps returning every shot until the opponent in frustration tries something unsound and loses.
It is hardly enough in the Mexico tourney though, but he will be a tough nut to crack. |
| Jun-11-07 | | Knight13: <but he will be a tough nut to crack.> But the dudes in Mexico got bigger hammers than these guys, so let's see.... |
| Jun-11-07 | | Mameluk: Huge congratulations to Peter and Boris. Both played very well and we can be sure there will be no lack of draws in Mexico now. Leko´s play was nearly perfect even if he had the weakest opponents perhaps, Gelfand had the strongest openings here. |
| Jun-11-07 | | percyblakeney: Gelfand is undefeated in 2007, +3 -0 =16 after this match. |
Jun-11-07
 | | Marmot PFL: <Did Kamsky ever have the better position in any game during this match?> Not that I could see. He may have been prepared for Bacrot but obviously was out of his depth in the openings with Gelfand. |
| Jun-11-07 | | euripides: I thought Kamsky's openings as Black were quite interesting. As White, they were a real disaster. |
| Jun-11-07 | | Dr.Lecter: I'm grieving Kamsky's loss. A year after comeback, but his opening preparations is very rusty compared to other top players. |
| Jun-11-07 | | shr0pshire: Maybe it is because I personally am not a fan of the Sicilian Rossolimo, but I wish that with the Sicilian being played, Kamsky would have played something sharper. :( This way it didn't seem like he went down swinging. That is my regret. |
| Jun-13-07 | | messachess: So, the story was that Kamsky dropped out of chess after losing the FIDE-sponsored match for the world championship to Karpov in order to pursue medical studies. Anyone know if he's invloved in the medical field now? |
| Jun-13-07 | | Mendrys: No, he quit studying medicine to study law. He obtained his law degree before he came back to chess. Pretty nice fall back if you ask me. |
| Jun-14-07 | | PUTO: How can Gata take chess seriously when he has so much knowledge in Medicine& law.Fischer only knew only one thing profoundly-Chess. |
May-07-11
 | | Peligroso Patzer: <Mendrys: No, he quit studying medicine to study law. He obtained his law degree before he came back to chess. Pretty nice fall back if you ask me.> Lucrative, any way. There is nothing "nice" about the legal profession. |
| May-07-11 | | theagenbiteofinwit: I don't think this is the Kamsky that we're witnessing in 2011. Not at all. |
