Jun-13-07  Petrosian63: Rublevsky loses both times with white. O

OMG.

Jun-13-07  Ezzy: Yeah, shame Topalov isn't in Mexico. The chess world has been robbed of a tournament with the top 5 players in the world playing. When was the last time we had that?
Jun-13-07  newton296: rub loses both white's. I don't think rub saw nxc3+ ! in the last game. Why allow the loss of his Q or checkmate after bxc Qb1 mate! he could have played Qc2 and then just pushed his connected passed pawns for the win ! congrats to grischuk for being the youngest to get in at 24 !
Jun-13-07  Marvol: <Petrosian63: Rublevsky loses both times with white. O

Yeah maybe he and Kamsky oughta go training together.

tpstar: You're so vain/You probably think this post is about you

Surely there are Russian ladies who think Rublevsky is the real hottie. ;>D

Nice to see Grischuk do well. He should go a long way toward livening up the party in Mexico.

Topa played a hand in that when he agreed to sign the contract with the stipulation that loser in last's years match is out from Mexico 07. Oh well, life goes on...

Jun-13-07  Karpova: <chancho: Topa played a hand in that when he agreed to sign the contract with the stipulation that loser in last's years match is out from Mexico 07. Oh well, life goes on...> He didn't expect to lose but Plan B failed.
Jun-13-07  14 Dog Knight: That stipulation should not have been there. If he (or Kramnik) had not agreed to it, would the match have taken place? If not, then I feel it fits the definition of signing under duress...

WarmasterKron: Of course, the Russians forced Topalov to agree to that stipulation by threatening torture. And obviously there was no need to fear that their boy Kramnik would miss Mexico as the match was rigged.

...

Sorry, I turned into Danailov there.

Jun-13-07  14 Dog Knight: The threat was not torture, but one of the match not taking place if not agreed to. But you can pat yourself on the back for being clever, at least in your mind.

acirce: Yes, you have to agree to the rules if you want to play. That is not a shocking concept.
Jun-13-07  GKIOLMAS: I think we are going to see a lot more of episodes in the series "Topalov going to Mexico", from both sides, until September.

I remember some posters commenting that Kramnik needed the match much more than Topalov did, since Vesko was the true world champ in their eyes. Why didn't he just avoid the match? My guess is he felt he would win it without any difficulties. Look at some of the photos of the opening ceremony of that match. You can see Vesko smiling like a cheshire cat in them. Yeah, it was gonna be easy he probably thought...

Jun-13-07  Knight13: That sucks.

keypusher: <14 dog night> To meet the legal standard of duress, Topalov would have had to sign under something similar to Warmaster Kron's scenario, not yours.

I dunno. Topalov looks uncomfortable to my imagination. Partly it's because, compared to the huge Kramnik, he seems like a little guy.

chancho: Haven't you heard? Levon discovered that the getting beat up trick to pick up the chicks is no longer working. That girl posture is his latest method at picking up those babes! Gotta give the dude credit, he'll try ANYTHING to land a lady.

If you scroll down it'll say that Arianna Caoili is Aronian's girlfriend now. http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...

Jun-14-07  dehanne: <Can some one tell me why Aronian is posturing like a girl?> Maybe Gelfand dared Aronian to do his Charlie Chaplin mimic.

chancho: <Pulse> I already knew that he was going out with Caoili.
Jun-14-07  J.A. Topfke: I think Aronian should look over his shoulder because every picture I see it looks like Caoili is making eyes at Aronian's second, Vladimir Potkin.

Here's one where they're sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. Really, is it necessary for them to be sitting that close?

Sorry, just wanted to start a rumor.
