chessgames.com: The Kings Tournament Bazna Romania takes place 15th-27th June 2007. Organizers: ROMGAZ & CS “Alex 2001” Bucharest.

Some people may wonder why Chiburdanidze and Khalifman have only 1 game apiece while the other players have two games. This is due to the format of the tournament: There are 11 players, so each day one player gets a rest. The first round, Chiburdanidze had a rest day. The second round, Khalifman took a day off. By the end of the tournament everybody will have played 10 games in total.

PhilFeeley: Interesting "old guard" tournament. It's nice to see Mecking and Portisch playing.
Jun-18-07  Karpova: So far, Andersson seems to take an unofficial rest day every round.

Stonehenge: Far too many short draws in the first three rounds, I don't like that.
Jun-18-07  Raskolnikov: Just now Rafael Vaganian has 2.5/3 points but its looking that Alexander Khalifman is going to win against Mecking.

suenteus po 147: It's impressive to see Vaganian score 2.5/3 already, though it will be even more impressive if he can maintain this performance.

virginmind: i hope suba, romanian gm, will make a good impression. still i wonder why florin gheorghiu, much stronger gm (has an equal score with fischer)who was at his top form in the 60s and 70s, and also competed convincingly in the 80-90s, was not invited.
Jun-18-07  nescio: <It's impressive to see Vaganian score 2.5/3 already, though it will be even more impressive if he can maintain this performance.>

At least he has done something about his disastrous score againat Timman: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

In their first 5 games Vaganian had White and scored 0-5. Must have been black magic.

virginmind: drawing with black against beliavsky is not a bad result by suba.
Jun-18-07  nescio: <virginmind: still i wonder why florin gheorghiu, much stronger gm [...]was not invited.>

He was once regarded as one of the most talented players in the world, but judging by his current rating of 2364, Gheorghiu has retired from grandmaster chess.

Jun-19-07  Mateo: There should be some live games here: http://www.sahclub.ro/toma/070615li....
Jun-19-07  Mateo: But no moves although the round began.

Jun-19-07  Mateo: Thanks.
Jun-19-07  Mateo: Andersson is already looking for a Queen trade (13.Qf3): ending as usual, Ulf registerd trade mark.
Jun-19-07  Mateo: It's done. 14.Qxc6 with an equal ending.

ahmadov: We have two tournaments taking place simultanously. I do not like this as this situation divides chess fans... I think organizers of various chess tournaments should bear this in mind in the future...

plang: Actually, there are three going on (and Dortmund starts in a few days).

Obviously, it is better for chess if there are "too many" tournaments than too few.

Jun-19-07  Karpova: No, four at the moment:
Gorenje (with Karpov)
Championship of the Netherlands (I. Sokolov, Tiviakov, etc.) Aerosvit
Bazna

ahmadov: <plang> Actually, I am worried about <virginmind>. He has to follow the games of Nisi in Ukraine and the tournament in his own country :)
Jun-19-07  Mateo: Andersson is in an increasing fighting mood: 1st round, 13 moves; 2nd round: 22; today: already 24 moves.
Jun-19-07  Karpova: <Mateo>
It's probably rather Sokolov who avoids the draw ;-)

ahmadov: <Mateo: Andersson is in an increasing fighting mood: 1st round, 13 moves; 2nd round: 22; today: already 24 moves.> Ribli-Portisch is also a 16 move draw... This tournament must be boring with many short draws then... Kings love peace here...
Jun-19-07  Karpova: Andersson - Andrei Sokolov 1/2 after 25.a3
