Jul-08-07  percyblakeney: <Peligroso Patzer> I have no idea, and since the 2000-07 statistics cover Kasparov's worst years and the time when Anand reached #1 it's possible that it would look slightly better for Kasparov if the 80's and 90's were covered as well.

notyetagm: <Themofro: Final comment on the last game by the IM <More great moves by Anand. He realized beautifully and Topalov resigned. A trully great game, Anand made a problematic piece sacrifise, but followed it with a lot of beautiful ideas and Topalov didn't manage to figure some of them out. 1-0>>

Thanks for that insight.

Jul-08-07  NakoSonorense: Anand is just insane in rapid. He beat Pono and Topa to a pulp. No mercy for them.
Jul-08-07  chessmoron: Rapid king prevails. Way too easy. The rapid tournament is way to easy to predict.

jessicafischerqueen: What about the <Tunnel King>?
Jul-08-07  Hot Logic: I'm having trouble finding the results. What is the final result of the Anand - Topalov mini-match?
Jul-08-07  NakoSonorense: Hot Logic: Anand 3-1 Topalov
Jul-08-07  Hot Logic: Much Thanks :)
Jul-08-07  MadBishop: The last game was brilliant! Anands reply to Topalovs ...b4 with Nc6 was electrifying! He then sacrificed his advantage and THEN later in the game sacrificed the exchange! Definitley the game of the tournament! ;-)

Jul-08-07  Chess Classics: Wow, Anand is still clearly the best rapid player in the world.

So long, chessbucks.

Yes, he is. And blitz, too.

JointheArmy: ^How do you justify blitz? I don't think he was ever the best blitz player in the world.

notyetagm: <Jointhearmy> He won the <Tal Memorial Blitz tournament> last November ahead of all the world's greatest blitz players: Aronian, Svidler, Grischuk, Radjabov, Carlsen, etc.

All the top blizters in the world showed up in Moscow and Anand won by a large margin.

notyetagm: <Jointhearmy> http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... has all the details of Anand's overwhelming victory at the 2006 Tal Memorial blitz tournament.

Anand won by a 2(!)-point margin over runner-up Aronian and did not lose a single two-game mini-match over the whole two day tournament.

Anand is =clearly= the strongest chess player in the world at the rapid and blitz time controls.

Jul-09-07  14 Dog Knight: Is chessbase.com serious? They mentioned Anand's seven wins in a BLITZ tnmt and went on to say that it was more then the five times Federer or Borg won at WIMBLEDON! First of all, those five championships were in succession. Secondly, Wimbledon is the premier event in all of tennis. You'd have to win Dortmund, Corus, etc to compare them...or even the world championship. I am a big chess fan but let's not place Ciudad de Leon in the same category as Wimbledon...
Jul-09-07  mkrk17: Wow..i missed all the action because i was travelling. But look at the way anand trounced Topa. Great going..

I hope this streak continues till he becomes the world champion..

Go Anand Go....

Jul-09-07  14 Dog Knight: okay...Rapid chess

WannaBe: Anand wins?! Anand Won!! Wooo Hoo!! Chess Bucks are coming my way!!!
Jul-09-07  mckmck: Congrats to Anand
Jul-09-07  Chess Classics: <14 Dog Knight> The moral of this story is that the writers at chessbase are sometimes really stupid. Get used to it, or read Mig Greengard's blog instead.
