Aug-20-07  Cactus: I don't get this. It says Anand defeated Aronian in the final, but Aronian won. Why?
Aug-20-07  jmi: Aronian defeated Anand in Chess960.
Anand defeated Aronian in the Rapids.
Aug-20-07  coastalferg: i wish chessgames would give us the games from the chess960 matches its instructive to see great players going at it without the aid of opening theory
Aug-20-07  savagerules: All these Ruy lopez games with white playing an early d3 is getting old. Maybe 3 Bb5 is not the best move after all. Even English opening games are more interesting than these super quiet Lopez games.

Agreed. I think Chess960 could be the future of chess. Less memorization and more in the moment skill.

Aug-21-07  Manic: <coastalferg> They might be having a bit of trouble configuring the pgn viewer so it can take the files. I think it could be the castling issue in Chess960 which may be delaying the games being put up. Hopefully they do add them to the database. Its interesting how even super GM's can falter with no opening theory.
Aug-21-07  pawnofdoom: I doubt it is the castling issue that's preventing those games from being added. Three other Chess960 games are already on the database, and they work perfectly. I don't see why chessgames can't post the latest ones.

Although in general i agree that the ruy doesn't seem to be as dangerous as it used to be, due to the Marshall move order. And nobody is going to want to use their novelties in the mainlines in a rapid game, so that's probably why we see so many d3 ruys at this time control.

I also think it's a shame that Anand never really fully incorporated another first move into his repertoire. He could suffer because of this in Mexico.

Yes, but two of them have no castlings, and the third one has king at e1 and rook at h1 in the starting position, so they are hardly a good test.

Octavia: Congratulations to Anand! I thought at first that it was a minimatch between Aronian & himself. But it seems that Khasimzanov & Bacroe were 3rd=. I'm not sure if they all took part in the Mainz Onix or if that was a seperate competition.
