Peligroso Patzer: <Jim Bartle: I'm no expert, but it sure looks as if Inarkiev did a huge favor for Morozevich by voluntarily opening the g and h files.>

That was my impression also, but I guess he did not like having his Rook tied down defending the h-pawn. Although it only served to let the second White Rook into Black's position (with swift and devastating consequences), 47. ... h4 probably appealed to Inarkiev because it eliminated a weak pawn and freed his Rook.

By move 47, Inarkiev was almost certainly lost whatever he played.

Peligroso Patzer: ... and Sakaev-Amonatov is now the "last game standing" at the 2007 Russian Superfinals.
Dec-30-07  moroloser: I'm already missing him...Gave us fans a very entertaining Xmas. He's not playing Corus, will he play Linares at least??
Dec-30-07  Scarecrow: 8/11, the player with the fewest draws and most wins, a very impressive performance by Morozevich! I'm sure this will boost his rating a bit as well. Very nice new additions to chess theory in the exchange Slav also. Clear 2nd place for Grischuk and clear 3rd for Tomashevsky. Svidler's -1 performance against this field is embarrassing.
Dec-30-07  malthrope: <Peligroso Patzer: ... and Sakaev-Amonatov is now the "last game standing" at the 2007 Russian Superfinals.>

Actually <Peligroso Patzer> - I think the women will finish things up with a 4-way playoff for the their Championship title! Korbut, Tairova, Ovad and Tatinia Kosintseva are all tied up at 7-4! :^) Unless of course some other tiebreak system is being used to sort all this out... ;)

Dec-30-07  DCP23: Alexander Morozevich is the new Russian Champion. Congratulations! The title goes to a most deserving player.
Dec-30-07  malthrope: Amen to that <DCP23> :))
Dec-30-07  The 64 Deadly Sins: Who would have guessed such a score for Moro? :-)

With a little more perfection, he could have one the first game and drawn the last game that he lost.

Eyal: And with a very impressive finish as well – serves me right, I guess, for saying earlier that Moro seems to be playing for a draw... coming back now to see how the games have turned out after leaving before, I'm still trying to figure out what started Inarkiev's downfall in the game.

Fantastic!

I assume that will be starting imminently. Will it be carried on the same online site as the regular games (http://russiachess.org/online/)?

Well one can hope so! I'll stick around awhile and refresh the main website... :) Those women play for blood and if it happens - it should be bloody fantastic! ;))

Dec-30-07  JYMMI: A happy day for me. I like Moro. And now? What are the final standings?
Dec-30-07  Microdot: Congratulations!! to Super GM Morozevich.
Dec-30-07  Gouki: The new Russian Champion of 2007, GM Alexander Morozevich.

does anyone why the 2006 Champion Evgeny Alekseev did not participate in this event?

Dec-30-07  CHESSDOCTER: Alekseev played in Moscow Blitz tournament(Kosteniuk won!) according to Kosteniuk.com.
Dec-30-07  Nepa Pugna: Today's games have been over for a while and I didn't get the chance to see one "live" today. As luck would have it when I finally tune in I find Moro is champ. Outstanding!
Dec-30-07  Riverbeast: Congratulations to Morozevich, the brilliant champion of Russia!

Morozevich, like a true artist, probably does not own a suit (or maybe he owns one, but it was in the cleaners...from the last time he wore it in Mexico City! :-)

Apr-20-08  positionalgenius: Svidler's performance was stunningly bad here.
