Harvestman: Now both Korbut and Tairova are down a pawn. This is a tough day for the leaders.

Dec-29-07  Scarecrow: Korbut escaped with a draw but Tairova lost. This leaves both at 7/10 before the last round.

Dec-29-07  popski: Wow, great game by Tatiana Kosintseva today! Really brave play!

whiteshark: That's quite unacceptable. It's in the middle of the night!
Dec-30-07  malthrope: Oh goodie! Mal doesn't have to take a short nap before the games start this morning! ~lol~ :^)
Dec-30-07  TheBB: Looks good for Korbut ... Tairova is being eaten alive.
Dec-30-07  TheBB: Wait. Scratch that. Korbut is also being eaten alive.
Dec-30-07  Scarecrow: Any idea about tiebreaks? If Tairova loses, Tairova, Korbut, T. Kosintseva and Ovod will all finish on 7/11...

Peligroso Patzer: Tairova has resigned, so <Scarecrow>'s question re: tiebreaks is no longer hypothetical. The final standings have a four-way tie for first at 7.0/11.
Dec-30-07  Scarecrow: Only Tairova has six wins, that may count. I cannot go into the trouble to calculate head-to-head scores or S-B now... last year I think there was a rapid tiebreak in the men's section between Alekseev and Jakovenko with no regard to such scores...

Harvestman: Ooo, a four-way tie! And I missed it, because I forgot the round was starting early. :-(

Turns out it was an expensive phone call for Korbut in round 2.

Peligroso Patzer: <Harvestman: *** Turns out it was an expensive phone call for Korbut in round 2.>

How very true, and how sad for her. Even so, she could have taken clear first if she had been able to manage a draw with White today.

Dec-30-07  DCP23: Unconfirmed, but most probably it will look that way (one of the participants said so):

1. T.Kosintseva
2. E.Tairova
3. E.Ovod

Dec-30-07  Scarecrow: I would be happy with that (have been rooting for Tatiana K.)
Dec-30-07  Scarecrow: Well, Sonneborn-Berger scores seem to support that...

T Kosintseva 39,25
Tairova 37,75
Ovod 35,75
Korbut 33,5

Dec-30-07  malthrope: Oh thanks gang! ;) I was wondering if the tiebreak system would cover it without having a complex 4-way playoff... Well, they all deserved to win really, but I'm very glad it was WGM/IM Tatinia Kosintseva! :))

Annie K.: Me too. And just yesterday I thought she had no chance to win whatsoever... that girl is LUCKY!

BTW, Mal, it's "Tatiana" (or "Tatyana"), not "Tatinia". Just saying because you called her that twice that I saw. ;) If that's too long, the usual nickname form of her name is Tania or Tanya. :)

Yeah Annie - I just mispelled it. :-(
I've just corrected it in the <ChessBookie> post just made and now also on my User Profile <<<Current Chess Events>>>... ;)

May-18-08  flhoosier: isn't either of the kosintseva sisters playing any matches in 2008?
