rogge: <The Rocket: what about rybka then? you think kramnik can draw 99% of his games as white against rybka? not a chance>

What's your point, that computers playing black can beat superGMs?

Kinda old news.

Feb-24-08  minasina: <Resignation Trap: Radja has been wearing the same shirt and jeans for the last five rounds in Morelia>

Nothing wrong with using the same clothes....but does he really have time to wash that shirt sometimes, or does he use it as a tactical weapon against opponents....?

Feb-24-08  Jim Bartle: Whoa. I come to chessgames to get away from the pre-Oscars bash with all its "my designer this" and "shoes by so-and-so," and the discussion is about fashion here, too? Is nothing sacred?
Feb-24-08  babakova: I wonder what Anand has done with his thinning hair:

in 2005: http://chessbase.com/news/2005/sanl...

in 2008: http://chessbase.com/news/2008/more...

looks pretty good.

Feb-24-08  chessmoron: Rogaine? or fake hair.
Feb-24-08  The Rocket: I have a question regarding chess not hairstyles!, Why do so many gm games end in draws so quickly?, sometimes one of players has a huge time advantage!, so why dont play on till the supposed drawn endning, the opponent might still loose on time!
Feb-24-08  The Rocket: opponent might lose on time just before the drawn ending that is
Feb-24-08  Jason Frost: Because if its obviously drawn the opponent might take it as an insult if you don't except a draw(plus most gms could hold an obviously drawn endgame, even with lack of time)
Feb-24-08  The Rocket: But sometimes(often with leko) they agree to a draw after only 20-25 moves(just because its an equal position), in those cases the opponnent with supperior time left should continue because there is lot of play left and the opponent can start blundering because of pressure from the clock. I am refering to the quick gm draws

boz: You guys who are always talking about draws saying they are boring...guess what, it is you who are boring.

There are plenty of exciting games. A few draws come with the territory.

boz: Hey, Rocket, I see from your profile you drew with Rybka after 19 moves. Congratulations. You are clearly a future Grand Master.
Feb-24-08  The Rocket: do I sence a bit of sarcasm in your comment regarding me?,why yes you are being sarcastic, shame on you for that! especially since you have never seen me play chess

boz: No, Rocket, I just think you are a hypocrite. By your measure of things you should have fought on after 19 moves just like Leko should.

<Jason Frost: Because if its obviously drawn the opponent might take it as an insult if you don't except a draw>

I disagree. These guys play for money (that's why they're called professionals). It's not a cost-effective use of time and energy to expend hours in intense concentration when the prospect of gaining a half point is slim.

That said, not all players use the same criteria in their cost/benefit calculation.

Feb-24-08  The Rocket: well I am not a very well payed super grandmaster, who has got audiences paying to see me play more than 19 moves
Feb-24-08  Gameoverziggy: <The Rocket: well I am not a very well payed super grandmaster, who has got audiences paying to see me play more than 19 moves> Probably played all in theory and you probably set Rybka to a high draw %. Like other's have said go 19 more moves and if you get a draw than i'll be impressed.
Feb-24-08  The Rocket: I did not tweak with the rybka engine at all!, I was very suprised that it offered me a draw after 19 moves, I repeatedly attacked its queen and when it moved and I moved my piece back again, and rybka still wanted its queen back to the same place and after repeating moves a note came up where it said something like do you want a draw?.

tpstar: <Resignation Trap> On off days, organizers were spotted showing Radjabov all the sights in Morelia including the Chess King and the Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse.

Maybe next time they'll link his appearance fee with, you know, his appearance. At the very least, someone should clue him in that the Goth look is so very 90's already.

<Jim Bartle> This falls under "rest day entertainment." :-)

Feb-24-08  The Rocket: "Probably played all in theory" no and I did not follow the opening book from beggining to end

Ron: It seems that Radjabov specializes in the Sveshnikov, and the Kings Indian's Defense. I wonder, though, if that might make it easier for his opponent to prepare--his opponent can expect what opening he will play. Leko had a fine game against his Sveshnikov, and Shirov had a fine game against his King's Indian.
Feb-24-08  The Rocket: Kasparov vs Junior also a draw after 19 moves I guess they must have have set junior to a high draw? right? ziggy?

For the sake of the other competitors, I hope he takes a shower and gets changed before Linares.
