Feb-19-08  cannibal: <percyblakeney: I suppose Naiditsch can feel certain about being invited to Dortmund for the sixth year in a row, but he doesn't seem to be in his best form>

Yep, and with Naiditsch losing even more Elo points than he already has in the recent past, and the Aeroflot winner possibly not being an Elo monster either, this year's Dortmund may easily fall quite a bit behind some other top tournaments.

sisyphus: Marie Sebag has a won Q v R+P ending against Pavel Smirnov. If she finishes it she should be back on track for her third GM norm.

percyblakeney: Sebag had a mate in 7 with 84. Qb5+ but missed it.

percyblakeney: She finally won, and is having a rather good tournament.

percyblakeney: Naiditsch lost again, and is performing way below 2500, it won't be easy for him in Dortmund if he doesn't improve.
Feb-20-08  hitman84: Sebag displayed great technique! Instructive ending.

percyblakeney: She has an even score against 2600+ opposition on average after seven rounds, and that includes a draw with black against Bologan.

percyblakeney: Caruana lost his third white in a row, against Kotanjian, and is -2.
Feb-20-08  hitman84: Yes very impressive performance in a tournament of this magnitude.

Asrian-Timofeev is a very interesting ending.

Feb-20-08  hitman84: <percyblakeney>Yes he is still very young and going by his games at Corus he doesn't like draws.

f2 wins for Timofeev.

Feb-20-08  hitman84: No there is a stalemate trap at the end!

percyblakeney: Hou doing fine as well, +1 with 4 black games of the 7 played, and her weakest opponent this far is Grigoriants (2583).
Feb-20-08  hitman84: Kg2 looks forced.
Feb-20-08  hitman84: Yes Hou is a great talent no doubt about it.
Feb-20-08  hitman84: Asrian-Timofeev drawn.
Feb-20-08  hitman84: Motylev is probably having a headache!.

Feb-21-08  Troller: Nepomniachtchi will meet Le from Vietnam today with the Black pieces. Since the leading players are beginning to draw their games, this could be his chance to take the lead again.

The other top games are:
Dreev-Guseinov
Motylev-Rodshtein

Volokitin-Sutovsky and Bologan-Grachev also looks interesting. Hou has White against Najer, this is a tough one for her.

Feb-21-08  Troller: Games are on! Dreev-Guseinov is so far the more interesting top game, a KID Sämisch. Position after 9.Nb3:

Both Motylev-Rodshtein and Volokitin-Sutovsky are Caro-Kann Advance. Might also be nice games to follow.

Harvestman: I rather like Nepomniachtchi's position already. White to play:

Feb-21-08  Troller: Poor Guseinov is clearly not at home in the Sämisch. Dreev leads him by almost an hour on the clock now.

Asrian-Amonatov and Minasian-Akopian were both 9-move-draws. Shame on the otherwise combative Armenians!

Yifan Hou is not like that. Hou-Najer after 18..f6:

White has 1:48 against 1:11 and seems well prepared.
