Mar-28-08  emmi: Shulman!!
Mar-28-08  mckmck: Gongrats from World Team.
Mar-28-08  lonepsycho: Congrats, Mr. Shulman! I notice that you are not responding to the exaggerated fianchetto of the Queen's Indian with 5.b3 any longer! 5.Qc2 is perhaps a more challenging response (in light of 12. ... f5, which even Anand has adopted!).

Peligroso Patzer: According to the chess column in yesterday's New York Times, which featured a game by high school sophomore, Robert Hess, here is a summary of the results from this tournament:

Robert Hess, a sophomore at Stuyvesant High School in New York and an international master, "played seven grandmasters in the last seven rounds, scoring four wins, two draws and a loss. This netted him a grandmaster norm, one of three needed to earn the title.

"It also gave Hess a share of first place with four grandmasters — Yuri Shulman, Alexander Ivanov, Alexander Shabalov and Julio Becerra. Shulman won the title by beating Ivanov in an 'Armageddon' playoff — a blitz game in which White has six minutes while Black has five but need only to draw to be declared the winner."

Apr-01-08  Riverbeast: Stuyvesant racks up again!! (My alma mater)...Nice job Hess
