Apr-02-08  Comandente: Pretty drawish tourney...
Apr-02-08  Knight13: ...with a few notable players.

kellmano: Hmmm. Balogh won one game and yet won the tourney.

On the point of draws, there seem to be fewer draws in the very highest level chess these days. I hope that the players, as they improve, have developed beyond the drawing phase and are now having decisive games again (as their standard of chess has improved). The second tier players (like here) play at the level the highest tier used to, and thus have lots of draws.

Is this possible?

Apr-02-08  jon01: Yes, pretty sad draw tournament. Naiditsch and Mikhalevski were the only ones who had decisive results.
Apr-02-08  Kwesi: good result for the lowest rated player in the tourney though
Apr-03-08  AmyBeercondo: boredom....
Apr-03-08  paavoh: <boredom... pretty sad... etc> Please play thru the games first before passing such judgments. For examples, Almazi-Mikhalevski is a jewel, and they were really fighting it out in Vallejo-Mikhalevski!
Apr-04-08  jmi: A 7 move draw for Nisipeanu vs Vallejo-Pons, 2008 ?

Why bother turning up?

Apr-04-08  hkannan2000: <jmi> if they don't turn up both could be forfeited and get zero.
Apr-08-08  mateifl: <jmi> It's a mistake in the cg database. The game is 26 moves long. http://www.palace-heviz.hu/pages/en...
Apr-18-08  percyblakeney: Naiditsch-Mikhalevski from the last round is missing at the moment, Mikhalevski can't be accused of drawishness here since he could have taken the repetition draw but chose a quick loss with 40. ... Qd8:
