| Jul-02-08 | | mkrk17: Imagine if Anand had already prepared this line for the WC match in october, imagine seeing someone else play it against Kramnik few months earlier... What a disaster...Anand must be cursing Naiditsch for doing this... |

 | | Harvestman: Given some of the comments on the early pages here about the inclusion of 'weak' players like Gustafsson (currently leading) and Naiditsch (just beat Kramnik), can we now agree that no-one graded 2600+ can be regarded as weak, please. Granted, the tournament is not as strong as in some previous years, but this is still a set of very fine chess players. |

| Jul-02-08 | | mukluk: when does the match Leko vs Kramnik start? |

| Jul-02-08 | | maxfrank: Kramnik's Petroff loss might indicate he is preparing an alternative fortress. His Berlin was a surprise for Kasparov, so I'd guess he will attempt to surprise Anand either by playing the Marshall or a different Lopez line (Maybe Zaitzev or Breyer). Leko's problem with Kramnik is likely that their approach to chess is similar but Kramnik is the stronger talent. Leko has an edge over Morozevich since 2002, and that kind of matchup suits his style. |

 | | truefriends: Every time someone finds a novelty you hear Kasparov say: Oh yeah, found this 5-10 years ago. I think it is time for Kasparov to share his knowledge with the chessworld! Kasparovs openingbook must be a real hidden treasure. At least this would make it possible for us to check his claims :-) |

| Jul-02-08 | | randzo: Nepomatchi and Kramnik will today win |
 |
| Jul-02-08 | | percyblakeney: Naiditsch-Mamedyarov very much reminds of Leko-Ivanchuk. |

| Jul-02-08 | | sheaf: <had already prepared this line for the WC match in october, imagine seeing someone else play it against Kramnik few months earlier> why do i get the impression that people believe that the novelty naiditsch played was the last novelty left in petrov.. actually, in my opinion petrov is no better(or worse) than ruy closed, or berlin for black.. even the stats would agree. its just that over the last couple of years kramnik has done amazing preparation with it. but there are strange ways to create advantage in petrov defence as well. nothing is unbeatable.. on the other hand play KG against kramnik will definitely win the match, for kramnik. |

Unless you have done this kind of deep preparation (or even then), Petroff is even <less> solid than than the closed Ruy, for example. You really need to know what you are doing or you will be blown away tactically if White (or you) chose such a line. |

 | | virginmind: heh, quite an unexpected square for a white pawn (gustafsson)to be at move 10 |
 |
| Jul-02-08 | | Youjoin: <percyblakeney> Do you mean Gustaffson and Leko? |
 |
| Jul-02-08 | | percyblakeney: <Youjoin> And van Wely, 1:16 as compared to Nepo's 1:55. |

 |
| Jul-02-08 | | Skakistis: Any comment for the starting of Kramnik - Leko? |
 |
| Jul-02-08 | | percyblakeney: <Skakistis> Looks rather even, and now Leko is ahead on the clock. |
 |
| Jul-02-08 | | percyblakeney: Nepo has prepared well and is an hour ahead on the clock, looks like a tricky position for van Wely. |
