brankat: The last round should be very interesting.

Seven players have a chance to win Dortmund event!

  whiteshark: Go Loek!! :D
Jul-06-08  TheBB: Umm... if Naiditsch and Mamedyarov win, Gustafsson and Nepomniachtchi draw and we have a decisive result in Kramnik - Ivanchuk, we'll have a 6-way tie for first. :P

whiteshark: Today is International Kissing Day!
I hope they will leave the traditional hand shake unchanged before the games will start, though.
Jul-06-08  Red October: I dont mind being the intermediary for both participants ;-p
Jul-06-08  myschkin: Bussi <October> :)
Jul-06-08  Whitehat1963: So, again, why did they invite Van Wely to this tournament? Can someone refresh my memory?

whiteshark: <Red> Take the slipstream shuttle!
Jul-06-08  KamikazeAttack: <Let's not forget that. But with all due respect, I think Van Wely should stop getting invited to these supertournaments. Nothing against him, but there are lots of top players waiting for a chance to prove themselves at this level, and its unfair not to invite them and invite Van Wely instead>

Have been saying this for a long time now.

Wely's continued invitations = joke of chess.

Jul-06-08  percyblakeney: Tiny advantage for Ivanchuk against Kramnik but it should be drawn rather soon.
Jul-06-08  Atking: Yes nothing very serious <percyblakeney>. But I note that Kramnik was this time ready to play the line he lost to Naiditsch.
Jul-06-08  percyblakeney: Nepo is giving Gustafsson something to think about here, looks a bit uncomfortable for black.

virginmind: according to fritz, van wely is already facing some problems after playing 12.g4

chancho: The boy in the cellar might go 0-5 in this event.
Poor Loek.
Jul-06-08  Jole: I wonder what people would be saying in 20 years time if Kasparov was still playing in top level tournaments, but was constantly comming last. Would he be similarly ridiculed?

As much as Loek-bashing is fun, maybe having every second comment for this tournament involving an insult to him is too much. Maybe we have wely, wely gone too far...

Jul-06-08  WarrenHam: How will vW defend his f pawn?
Jul-06-08  percyblakeney: Mamedyarov is the only player that seems to play hard to win in the last round, and it might end up with a loss.
Jul-06-08  jair: You said it all dragonman44. This Capablanca, Botvinnik, Karpov style kills chess but Kramnik proves that draw with black and push with white is hard to beat in matchplay.

Rolfo: van Wely may win today !
Jul-06-08  pubaer: ? I do not understand the kramnik fans.
What do you mean bad tournament by his standard?

what standard would that be? what was his performance at corus again? was he 7th or 8th? The dortmund tournament is tailor fitted for kramnik. short tournament where a +1 or +2 is sufficient to win. and he couldnt even get that.

you guys need to realize this: kramnik sucks, he sucks at tourneys and he sucks at matches. The only match he has won in the last 10 years was the one against kasparov. And I seriously doubt the legitimacy of that match.

Knowing kasparov and his very bad character, he probably threw the match so his protege would be World champion.

Jul-06-08  Scarecrow: Though I'm sure everyone here is familiar with the fact, I cannot see any comments stating that Leko is the sole winner of this tournament with a solid (modest if you like) +2 score. Not a historical achievement but something like a confidence booster. His win against Ivanchuk was very good and also the win with black (!) against the very strong Gustafsson deserves credit. The end of the losing streak with Black against Kramnik (even if the Russian was saving prep for Bonn) is also a nice little step on the way to the top again.

And oh, I'm also earning 1,400 chessbucks today because I bet 200 on Leko winning the tourney. :))

Jul-06-08  percyblakeney: Mamedyarov seems to have survived the worst somehow, that 24. ... Rac8 thing must have been very strong.
Jul-06-08  Bryce101: whats the ivanchuck-kramnik game looking like? is it a draw, 0-1 or 1-0?

moronovich: <Bryce.> Only 1-0 or draw.

And congratulations to <Scarecrow> ! You did bet on the right man , the right time :)

Jul-06-08  percyblakeney: Ouch, van Wely...
