Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-29-08  hellopolgar: Koneru Humpy 0/2 (+0 -2 =0)

what the?

isn't she like the only female player to break 2600 besides judit polgar?

Jul-29-08  itsankush: very tough to beleieve koneru lying at the bottom
Jul-29-08  percyblakeney: Koneru's live rating was higher than that of van Wely and Nepomniachtchi before the tournament, but she has had a surprisingly bad start.

Jul-29-08  randzo: Koneru Humpy hasnt a very good year(5.5/13 in Corus B group)
Jul-29-08  percyblakeney: <Koneru Humpy hasnt a very good year(5.5/13 in Corus B group)>

That was one tough event though, where she didn't lose against the top six (Movsesian, Bacrot, Nepomniachtchi, Cheparinov, Harikrishna, Short). She did better here: Ruy Lopez Chess Festival (2008)/Koneru Humpy

Jul-29-08  percyblakeney: Looks very good for Sebag.
Jul-29-08  percyblakeney: Koneru got her first win, against Cramling. Sebag may have found some refined way to draw what looked like a clearly won endgame.

Jul-30-08  DCP23: Chesspro got a big report on the tournament. If you don't read Russian you can see the photos -- there are many.

Wild Bill: This is the strongest women's tournament to this date. Whoever finishes last will be hard to imagine there.

  whiteshark: Round 4: four draws

Muzychuk - Stefanova
Xu Yuhua - Koneru
Sebag - Ushenina
Cramling - Pogonina

with two quick draws in 22 respectively 20 moves in the first two mentionend games. Somehow split of labour?

  sisyphus: Stefanova - Sebag 1-0
Ushenina - Cramling 0-1

The others were draws. Stefanova leads Xu Yuhua by a point.

The time control (G/90 + 30 sec) makes for some scrambles. It looks like a lot of players are in time trouble by the 25th move.

sisyphus: Xu Yuhua - Ushenina 0-1
Cramling - Stefanova 1-0
Koneru - Pogonina 1-0
Muzychuk - Sebag 1/2-1/2

puts Ushenina into second place, a half point behind Stefanova. Three other players are a point behind going into the last round.

Aug-03-08  percyblakeney: Stefanova won the tournament after a ten move draw in the final round. Sebag finished 0.5 from first but it could have been even better:

In A Stefanova vs M Sebag, 2008 she would have won immediately with 30. ... g4 but blundered in time trouble and even lost in this game that came to decide the outcome of the tournament.

In Y Xu vs M Sebag, 2008 she was winning <but something unbelievable happened in mutual time trouble. French player poorly arranged her pawns and by the 61st move the material was equal and the match ended with the draw> as the official site puts it.

In N Pogonina vs M Sebag, 2008 she didn't find the winning line pointed out by <whiteshark> on the game page.

On the whole Sebag played very well and was the player that impressed me the most, now if she just could avoid time trouble...

sisyphus: Stefanova wins the event for the first time in six tries.

Ushenina gets second on tiebreak, and outperforms her expectation substantially.

Muzychuk finished -1, but didn't win a game. She seems to be eager to offer draws.

Aug-03-08  gazzawhite: Symmetrical final scores ftw!
