Oct-23-08  Ladolcevita: Yup~~I feel the same!!
Now its hard to regain the material
Oct-23-08  percyblakeney: Engines give 35. Ra8+ Nb8 36. Rxb8 Qxb8 37. Qd5+ with clear advantage to Aronian, but maybe it would have been a draw in the end. Now he is piece down instead, so not looking too promising.
Oct-23-08  armenoid: Well, but doesn't Aro have a draw? Rodshteins pawns don't look dangerous at all, even with an additional knight.
Oct-23-08  percyblakeney: <armenoid> That pawn on c4 looks hard to get rid of for Aronian though.
Oct-23-08  percyblakeney: Ivanchuk won against Karjakin.
Oct-23-08  armenoid: Aronian lost :((
Oct-23-08  Vakus: Lost it or not, the previous game, the one with Volokitin, was the best in this tournament.

Harvestman: If this is the last round (and I think it is), then it looks like it will be decided by game points, not match points, since Baden-Baden are hanging on for a draw in the two games still playing. That means teams like Ural Sverdlovskaya, who won their match, will be tied on match points with them. Could be a multiple tie.

(Apologies if this isn't the last round)

Oct-23-08  percyblakeney: <That means teams like Ural Sverdlovskaya, who won their match, will be tied on match points with them>

I suppose Ural wins since they have 4.5 game points more than Baden-Baden. Malakhov won all his seven games for Ural.

Harvestman: Thanks Percy. Baden-Baden held the draws, but will be overtaken by Ural Sverdlovskaya (winners) and TPS Saransk (second). I'm not yet clear who is third.

It looks like my local team, Cwmbran, will finish 63rd of 64.

Oct-23-08  eremite: Kiev is the 3rd, I hope. Bloody Vasyl Ivanchuk has beaten both wonderboys confidently. He is the best in 2008, I think.

Yes, Ivanchuk has now beaten Carlsen and Karjakin on consecutive days. He needs only to defeat Vachier-Lagrave to make the final score read:

Ivanchuk 3
1990's 0

Btw, this is the <107th> classical game that Chucky has played this year so far (for comparison - Kramnik played 36, Anand 44, Topalov 47, even Carlsen "only" 79). He participated in Corus, Linares, Aerosvit, Mtel, Dortmund, Tal Memorial, the 2nd Grand Prix, the Russian Team Championship, Bilbao, and a couple of Bundesliga games (not to mention Amber). How does he do it?!

Oct-23-08  mang00neg: ivanchuk is just great to watch in action.

amadeus: Exercise is a must. Nothing like a good walk to ease tension and improve an old man's health.

It's amazing, and that's without mentioning all the games in the Tal Memorial blitz and Leon, and that he won both these events...

PhilFeeley: Aronian collapsed today. Very strange.
Oct-23-08  Cactus: It seems like, because there are few really good players in this event, they'll go for easy draws against each other, knowing they can simply get their points from the 'weakies'.
Oct-24-08  tal lover: Ivanchuk plays nice but he only win against kids
Oct-24-08  percyblakeney: <there are few really good players in this event>

Not that few :-)

Oct-24-08  Illogic: Ivanchuk beats down Carlsen and Karjakin on consecutive days! I like it!
Oct-24-08  percyblakeney: Ivanchuk is black, against his compatriot Karjakin, it is a team event, last round, he has already played 200 games this year. Draw? Nope...
Oct-24-08  Riverbeast: Has anybody noticed that Vladimir Malakhov is 7-0 so far?
