Jan-08-09  Xeroxx: Go Chukko! Go! Leku suks!
Jan-08-09  dumbgai: I thought Leko learned his lesson from Brissago: don't take a bunch of short draws with White and try to hang on with Black forever. I guess old habits die hard...
Jan-08-09  ughaibu: There's one short draw, as far as I can see. How many can you see?
Jan-08-09  dumbgai: <ughaibu> Well, it's hard to have a whole lot of short draws when you only get three Whites in a match. But it's a friendly rapid match with nothing on the line, whose only purpose was for the players to show their skills and entertain the fans, and Leko still plays like a turtle. Yes, "a bunch of short draws" referred only to the ones he took in Brissago (at least one where he was clearly better), but there is seriously something wrong with him and not even trying to win, and it showed here. It's not necessary to play like a sacrificial maniac, but just compare with the games where Ivanchuk had White: he squeezed his opponent until there were no more chances to win.
Jan-08-09  ughaibu: Certainly I would agree if you're suggesting that Leko isn't the most exciting player. Maybe the organisers were aiming for a contrast of styles.
